Indian Cent Variety

Hi All -

I don't have a whole lot of Indian cent references. I was wondering if any of you would know if there is a listing for a 1906 Indian Head cent with a Repunched Date. More than likely there several listings. I've attached a photo to help with identification. The remnants are most visible on the 1 and the 6. Could you please help me identify it? Thanks.

Edited to say Repunched Date instead of RPM.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

I don't see this variety of repunched date in my snow book but he say's "many very minor repunched dates". I am not sure but is this the "scarce" open 6 variety? image mike

    • Like I said, I don't have much reference material on indian cents. I doubt if it's an open six variety. I'm pretty sure it's a re-punched date though. I was just hoping it had a listing so I could label it as such. Thanks for the info. though.

Yes that is without question a repunched date but unfortunatly on most indian cents it does not increase value much. mike
    • Mike -

What would be your guess on the value?

As Darktone already mentioned, there are many, many (over 25)RPDs listed in Snow's 2nd Ed. Volme 6 for 1906. Most have an interest rating of "one star", or less, which translates to "a slight premium, probably no more than 2X" of the coins value without the RPD. I don't think you will see much, if any, premium. Sorry. image

Pushkin- I agree not much of a premium for a repunched date indian cent it might actually be harder to find one without a repunched date. mike

S-21 1906 19/19 (north) 6/6 (north) "Obverse: Moderate repunching on the top flag of the 1 and 9. Strong repunching on the 6 which looks like horns on the top loop. Reverse: Olive leaf away from denticles. Right shield point connected , left shield point away."
