Why the hell did they take SOSA out!!!

So apparently the Cubs took Sosa out for pinch hitter Hermansen, Sosa would have most likely had 2 more at bats. I know Sammy is a good guy and all but what the hell is that. He has a chance to tie or even possibly break an amazing record. Did he get hurt or something or what the hell happened. Anybody have a good explination for this?

  • Thru 5 innings, Sammy was 3-4 with 3 HR's and 9 RBI. This is the second time in a row that he's been taken out with 3 HR. He would have had a great shot at another HR and maybe even two more.

  • Just to clear it up for a few people, the record I was talking about was 4 homeruns in a game. Sosa had 3 homers and then in the 7th Hermansen was brought in to pinch it for him. Sosa would've also had a chance to bat in the 9th as well since they are the road team and they bat first. Sosa had a solid chance of hitting 4 homeruns today if not 5, anyone have an explination for the move that was made?

Heh...he probbaly WANTED out and didn't wanna embarass the opposing team anymore...image

Kinda like when Kobe Bryant went for 56 points in 3 QUARTERS and he decided that that was enough punishment. He could have easily gotten 70+ points that night. 21 for 34 FG shooting...amazing. Same difference. image
  • Stupid coaching mistake;maybe that's why they are such a bad team! Alot of experts thought they were going to be alot better.

  • He should have left them in. When there is a chance for records to be broken you shouldn't pull out a player. Thats like pulling out a pitcher who is going after a no hitter. If the score is 15-0, would you pull him out to save his arm? It should be the players choice and I think the manager asked if he would want to sit and Sammy must have said ok. He can probably break it on another day.

I think there was more to it than just the coaches saying..."well hell, we'll just go ahead and take Sosa out just for the hell of it". Doesn't seem right. I think Sosa might have WANTED out. He's always the type of guy who really doesn't pay attention to records and what have you and just goes out and "plays hard everyday". He might have wanted to give someone else a chance to play in RF since the Cubs already had the game in the books. I think there was more to it than that...

And another thing...Sosa has stated that if the Cubs team hasn't made any processby getting a lot better after the 2003 season...then he wants out of Chicago. Says he has "no problem with finishing career with a different team". Of course he wants to play on a winning team...who doesn't? You actually can't blame the guy...Wouldn't mind seeing him play for the Braves...image

VinceCarder...that dunk by VC HAS to be one of the greatest dunk ever and greatest dunks I'VE ever seen! That was simply amazing. I still gasp when I see that dunk. image
  • Mike "Tore my ACL cause of an awesome pickoff move" Lieberthal hit 3 tonight too.
  • Why leave a star in a game thats a blow out due to the job he's done? He's had a better game than most players are gonna have in a week. There's another game tomorrow you can be resting him so he can hit another HR or 2. if it's 9-8 leave him in and the record may happen but if it's a blow out let him have some time off to rest. It's a good theory to go by regardless as to whether your teams gonna win 100 or lose 100.
