Loosely translated it means "please pay me more then this coin is really worth". In most auctions it has roughly the same meaning as "monster", "stunning", "estate", "hoard", and "L@@K".
are you talking about the PQ on PCI slab? if so it don't mean much. I have seen quite a few of these and most of these coins would be body bagged by PCGS. mike
There are no dumb questions, prehaps some dumb answers. We all had to either ask or find out in some manner. Don't hesitate to ask any question. Ignorance is not knowing, its not being stupid.
To answer to your question PQ stands for premium quality. As an example lets say you have 10 1881-S Morgan Dollars all graded MS-65. Even though all 10 coins have the same grade not all 10 coins are going to look alike. There will be a few coins that are ugly but technically make the MS-65 grade. There will be a few coins that look like a typical coin for the grade and there will be a few that jump out and look better than the others. Maybe one has nice toning or has great eye appeal(just looks nicer than the others). Those are the coins the seller would call PQ. Normally a seller asks more for those coins. One thing you have to consider is the source when the seller uses PQ. It's an abused adjective that some dealers use on all their coins just to get more money. That is what all the joking is about on earlier messages when peope say when they buy the coin they are sold as PQ but when they go to sell them all the sudden the coin is a dog. Some dealers who use it really mean it and when you learn who they are it means something.
