Yet another eBay scam?

I really don't look for these things but there appears to be alot of fraudulent auctions on eBay. I am somewhat of a newbie but even I can smell these through my DSL!!

What do you guys think?

There is no way I would pay $5000 for a coin with out a picture, or a coin that is not certified. The buyer does not state a return policy. There is no way I would touch that coin...image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Let's see, $5,000 reserve, new seller, and no picture. Hmmm, I don't think I would touch that with someone else's money! image

My eyes are burning from the stink on that one. Assuming the bid isn't a shill, somebody is about to get screwed.

Russ - Would that be a Phillips or a straight notch screw. Bearimage

I guess he is counting on pcgs and ana's grading standards for a MS 67 match image

A torx screwdriver is sort of star shaped as its cross section. Compaq computers are put together using those screws as it is easier for robots to handle them.

At least he has a good deal on the shipping; Oh! $1.40 only gets you $50 worth of insurance coverage.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • He has another auction which is private, with 14 bids and its up to $28imageimageimageimage

Yes Ebay has loads o' fraud. Look for the good sellers, avoid the bad ones. They have larger positive feedback, offer returns and generally offer decent looking coins.

I have been buying over 4 years on Ebay now. Not been intentionally burned once. GIGANTIC KNOCK ON WOOD!!

Most fraudulent sellers reek of pungent dung and are easily avoided.

    I EXCEPT MONEY ORDERS

Does that mean he dosen't want them?

  • << <i>ONLY A FEW COLLECTORS HAD THE OPPURTUNITY OF OWNING SUCH A INEXPENSIVE LOW GRADE >>

What does that mean? Inexpensive --- like $5,000? Low grade --- like MS67. Or is this his subtle way of telling us the real grade?

lord have mercy, i am still rolling on the floor laughing at this one. THANKS for the comic relief!!!
  • Well, he has 2 positive feeds, but with no pic, come on. I think asking $5,000 for a coin, it's worth the extra .35 or so to have a pic of it. If he doesn't have a scanner, with 5,000, I bet he could buy a nice one.

Again, this could be good, but, it's borderline insane to take his word for it.

  • This auction reminds me of someone buying a lottery ticket and hoping to hit it big. At least your odds are bit better with buying a sight unseen coin. image

  • I'll bet the winner at $5K is a shill bidder. What a bunch of fools. The seller will now have to pony up around $250 forebay final value fees.imageimageimage

Check the feedback of the buyer, all of the items he bought were well under $300 bucks with the coin ones not over $150 and now he pops for a $5000 coin sight unseen...yeah right.

I thought about setting up a phony ebay userid just to get these guys back. Bid $15K for the coin and let him deal with the Ebay fees. Then neg him with a never rcvd message. That would be a kick.
  • Did you see the bids? The winner bids $350 against $300 and then bids $5,000 to "win" it. Huge scam and even ebay management should be able to spot thisone!

Endo, he'll just file a nonpaying bid form in a couple of weeks or so, and not respond to the email, since he is the one that will get the nonpaying bidder form from ebay.

for anyone who hasn't seen this, especially those versed in "ebay investigations" this buyer/seller combo is beyond suspicious.

this auction went for $5k, the high bidder (buyer/seller) just happening to know the reserve was $4,650 higher than his previous bid. suspicious enough.

the buyer/seller still has one item up for auction, an autographed shirt, the exact same shirt, "coincidentally" that the buyer/seller happened to purchase, for $200 less than the starting bid, one week before the buyer/seller put it up for auction.

i guess i'll just watch and see if the buyer/seller makes a bid on this shirt too. hey, i'm sure these are as "rare" as 3" diameter IHP's.

anyway, if anyone knows procedures for getting ebay to investigate or has a sense whether an investigation will go anywhere, let me know. thanks.

    zenny
