FA: J B N Seated Dollars Sale TODAY [Sep 3 Stacks Global Showcase Auction]
Auction September 3.
Session 5 of the auction. Lots 3157-3191 and Lot 3200.
This sale of my beloved collection of these majestic pieces is necessary for proper completion of my half dollar set – the ones with the ‘1/2’ reverse.
Here is the first purchase for the collection, from Teletrade. My original intent was to do a New Orleans set. One can easily underestimate the presence of these coins in hand.

Congrats on building such a beautiful set. What are your five favorite coins?
This is such a nice collection. I hope to acquire a few!
How long did it take to build the set?
This coin is the starting coin (Owned by MFH) for the 107 page thread 'Please post you Seated Liberty images'. The first post retains its photo.

I purchased the coin from CRO July '12.
One does not often encounter Civil War dates. This one has great eye appeal.

Thanks for the comments. I'll be featuring/posting others in this thread.
Purchased from Pinnacle. Coin had previously sold at Stacks/Bowers, with the following lot description: “Frosty surfaces exhibit warm golden toning and lively cartwheel luster. A nicely struck specimen with eye appeal that goes above and beyond what one might expect for the assigned grade. From a mintage for the date of 46,110 pieces, most of which were exported for use in the China trade.”
Was previously in the PCGS set registry 1853 Mint Set #1 finest – James Swan

This one purchased from Heritage. I got an inquiry from Heritage concerning selling it (presumably through their 'make offer to owner' feature). Heritage lot description: "This is a pleasing example of the scarce and popular 1859-S Seated dollar, the first silver dollar issue from the San Francisco Mint. The devices are outlined in dark steel with pewter-gray fields and tan highlights."

Wonderful in-hand. One of my favorites (@skier07).

Best of luck with the sale auction. You built a great set that takes time and patience.
My original intent with this impossible to complete series was to do O mints only. The 1850-O above was the first acquisition (January 2010) @split37.

I especially like the two common Os in the collection. Both were acquired in the same GC auction. I fell for these two because they saw commerce (some afloat on the Mighty Mississippi?), could have been from the same collector/collection and they match the condition of others.

The 46-O was acquired from Heritage.

A little over a week to go.....
An underrated date - not encountered often. This was a show purchase. A case where the coin 'jumped out at me' while walking the bourse floor. The proprietor was younger than I would have expected. Coin was marked with price and I asked whether he could do any better. Reply was nothing off. After payment was settled and I had the coin - two older individuals came to the table. It became clear that one was a senior dealer at the table and the other was interested in seeing the coin. The senior dealer, after finding the coin was sold, seriously inquired to the younger man 'what you sell for?' and the reply was acceptable. Timing is everything.

Just 2 days away. Here are two of the top coins in my collection. @skier07

This dollar just looks so correct and true:
This one has such a warm glow in hand:
Congratulation to the future owners of these nice dollars.
GL tomorrow
Good luck and thanks to all who participate.

The last two are special because of grade or sticker. Both of these are top coins in my collection.
First is this civil war date. Special because AU58+. Great untoned in hand eye appeal.

This one was my last purchase before sale. June 2024. First coin (in my first post) was sourced in January 2010. So 14 years of collecting effort for this set. @split37
This coin is gorgeous. CAC Gold. Few exist in AU. Wonderful coin.
