I don't think saves are that overrated... it requires that a pitcher be ready to work in potentially high-pressure situations and everyday readiness on top of that.
I almost think the W-L for starting pitchers is a bit irrelevant for determining pitching talent. A great pitcher with no offensive support can look average if there's so much focus on W-L. ERA and strikeout-to-walk ratio are much better indicators of pitching capability.

W-L for pitchers. Just look at Jeff Weaver when he played for the TIgers. He had a 6-8 record before he was traded and an ERA of 2 point something and he threw a 1 hit shutout earlier in the season. If he had been playing on a team like the Yankees the whole season, he would have been an All Star for sure.
