Does anyone else collect MS Kennedies here?

I have a small collection started.

  • Its a great series and the prices keep going up on many of the dates, If your interested I have a handfull for sale of some nice coins. I collected and had the # one set at one time, some day I will do it again,

No, no one should collect any coins that started to mint after their grandmother was born. I would recommend changing to either bust halves or seated liberty halves, as they are far more interesting (and have silver in them).

Great series, and competitive at the top.
I've got another set going, but am going for the unusual (rainbow toning/ off centered errors, and so forth) instead of just the super grades. (It's called, "The Magic Bullet" collection).

Cool idea, Braddick. What does the "bullet" signify? (Is it being shot at "target toning")image

I have the entire run in a Dansco Album. Have to get them from Mint Sets as you can never find them in circulation anymore.

  • I had the number 6 set for a time, but sold them off. Now I collect Kennedy varieties in MS and Proof, although I do have a couple in AU that are very nice. 100 different varities all graded and attributed by ANACS and the total is growing. BOB

Not a problem in Littlewicher's case.

I have the 87 P&D 88P 93D 97P and a few others. I can't think of them off the top of my head. I'm planning on making a full registry set.

What kind of grades are you looking at? I may have some extras, or can at least give you evaluations on your current pieces.

I'm going to try and make my own grades. I've been buying up a lot of mint sets.

    Braddick,

Most of these guys are too young to remember the magic bullet (the one found by John's body on the stretcher that was supposed to be responsible for several wounds - you do the homework), or even the Warren commission. I remember seeing the ballistics test conducted on a sandwich layer of cardboard and jello. Even more fun - watching the marksman try to fire 3 shots from the window of the school book repository while reloading a single shot rifle in 6 seconds. Ah, history. Then Jackie asking for a redesign of the original 64 coin to do away with the hair detail above the ear in early 64 giving us the AH variety.image

    Don,

Speaking of the AH variety, I came across an auction today where the seller claimed there were only 2500-5000 in existence. When I asked him where he got that number, he sent me an eMail full of gibberish, and removed the claim from the listing.

I always heard 2% quoted. If it's only 2500-5000 pieces, I'll bet this board has 50% of all known examples. Wouldn't that be cool.image

I'm confused--you have a 90-D you plan to submit, but don't list it in the coins you have. You've been buying a lot of mint sets, but only have both P & D for 1987.

    Don,

I told him that I found his estimate problematic. Although, It'd be nice if he were correct, since I own - so far - 11 of them.image

The ones that I have listed, are the ones that are already graded by PCGS. The reason I don't have P&D for all of the dates, is because most of the mint sets, only had one good Kennedy in them. It's hard finding a nice Kennedy that isn't scratched up real bad.

Hehehe, don't pretend you don't have the same disease Keith (you just like'em satiny instead of mirrored). BTW - I think there are almost enough of us to start our own forum. The merc guys and girls are almost a cult. Thank goodness we aren't like that, right Russ, Bear, Parker, Ray, guys. image

Listen people, Proof Kennedy Half Dollars are exactly like Winged Liberty Dimes ,only a lot bigger. I think its the most wonderfullest coin in the whole wide world. Of course, at the rate that Russ is hording them, their will only be a few hundred left in a couple of years but what the heck. Bearimage

    Bear,

I'll explain this one more time -- MS coins have pretty toning (see icon to left) -- proofs all look the same.

    Any questions?
