Re-living the 1990's hobby - Highland Mint Mint Card Gold 24K

Now it costs a BMW down payment to buy a case of new product, I have been fishing in the 1990's hobby pool.

I picked up these two. I was actually researching silver prices when these popped up. 4.25 oz of silver plated with 24K gold. The print run is 375. I may shrink wrap the slabs to make the airtight.

I recall those were quite expensive at the time of issue. Even the silver cards were pricy.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I don’t recall the exact cost when they were issued but I know it was high enough that I never looked again.

I read that there was a falling out with Topps that caused Topps to end the license and the Highland Mint had to destroy the unsold inventory.

I actually enjoyed this purchase a lot. I don’t need a $900 box of Prizm to have fun in the hobby.

I remember those well. I also remember all the collector plates, figurines and ceramic rookie card reprints released at that time.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
