FS/Trade- 1909 vdb MS-66 RED: US silver & proof sets and Can. PL sets

Hello.
I am looking to sell or trade my 1909 vdb MS-66 RD beauty currently. It is holdered in an ICG slab, and I know, I know...it really depends on what you think of them. I bought the coin because I agreed with the grade on the holder. It is a nice example of the first year of issue, very clean and full of luster. Very sharp, well defined strike as well. Nice blazing orange appearance (I will e-mail pics for interested parties).
CoinValues has listed this coin in this grade, valued at $1500.00. I do not have greysheet pricing (If someone can let me know, it would be appreciated). What I am looking to get out of this coin would depend if there was a trade involved.
I currently have intrests in paying bills, buying groceries, gas..... I jest! I have been looking into buying some gold as of recently, I always enjoy dollars, silver, type coins, large cents, SLQ's, pretty much anything!
Please feel free to make an offer of cash, trade or a combination of both. I love haggeling and working out deals. So if you interested in this coin, please let me know what you would be willing to do.
I also have 3 Candian PL sets (1963) [SOLD] and some misc. silver (U.S.), a 1909 silver Canadian nic, some U.S. Proof sets ('63 and '64) I would like to sell / trade for.
PM with interests.
Regards,
John

I have seen values of $350 to $150 dollars depending on the slab. Don't expect to get full asking price in an ICG slab. Could only be a 65 red in a PC slab.

  • Thanks for the info. I do agree with you, but it could be a 67 in an ACG slab as well. It goes both ways. As I said, I bought the coin, not because it was slabbed, but because I agree with the grade. I never anticipated getting $1500.00 for it, but I have several price guides that all quote that coin in that range. Yes there is a huge difference in a 65 RD vs. the 66 RD I know. That is why I will send images and offer a full return if its not all I said it is.
Thanks again and PL sets are PENDING.

A PCGS 66RD that is all there should run about $400.

You've asked for Greysheet on MS66RD, but the Greysheet follows their typical pattern of only listing prices up through the MS65 grade level. However, are you certain you are looking at the correct row in Coin Values? I ask because $1,500 seems to be wildly too high as a price for MS66RD and is more in line with MS67RD pricing for the issue. You may want to check Heritage auction archives for a real world sampling since they have sold literally hundreds of 1909 VDB Lincoln cents in MS66RD or higher. If you do check you may be in for an unwelcome surprise regarding price support for this issue.

  • Thanks TomB-
I'll check those sites out. I am certain I am looking at the right column, but I do realize that the coin is not worth $1500.00. What am certain of is the ridiculous prices paid for modern ms-70 Lincoln's and thought maybe people we actually willing to start paying decent prices for collectible coins, rather than spend $30,000 on a ms-70 lincoln for thier registry set. Oh, I can get a ms-66 example of a coin that is 100 years old for a fraction of the cost? Where did I go wrong?
I was hoping the coin was more in the $700-$800 range tho. Any-who, if there is intrest in the $400 range, I am happy to consider trades if anyone is looking. If not, no biggie, I'll pass it down to my kids to enjoy someday, when it probably WILL be worth $30,000 bones.
Thanks again, and the Canadian PL sets are SOLD!

    Regards,

    John
