GOETZ: Opus 278 Bismarck's Memoirs Volume III

K 278 BISMARCKS MEMOIRS VOLUME III (Bismarck III. Band.), 1921, Cast AE, 60.1mm, 72.60g.

Bismarck’s Gedanken und Erinnerugen (Reflections and Reminiscences) in Volume III was very critical of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Imperial courts had forbidden the publishing of the Volume until 1918. After the former Kaiser was exiled to Holland, the book came out in 1921. This medal comments on it.

Inscription on the obverse “Bismarck’s trust to the German people” and shows the third volume under lock and key. The inscription on the reverse reads, “Not for you Germans” with a Judge pushing German Michel away and Emperor Wilhelm watching and hiding underneath the third Volume.

Political statements in metal, to last for ages - this is history that you don't get from the written words in a book. Great explaination Scott.

I have to admit that a lot of the verbage is coming out of the Kienast reference books but I do add some spin if I have some knowledge about the incident.

Bismarck was pretty much spot on in his criticisms of Willy II.
