2004 Canada Silver Maple Giveaway!!! - WINNER

image

Up for grabs is a 2004 Canada Silver Maple Leaf, just released by the Royal Canadian Mint. The coin features the all new new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (supposedly more modern and less "formal" without her crown), designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. Contains one ounce 0.9999 fine silver.

To enter this giveaway, simply post a comment regarding the new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The winner will be chosen at random on Friday, 11/07/03, at 7 PM EST.

Good Luck!

And the winner is...

I like the new portrait. A little less pretentious, a little more "stately" in my opinion, and finally something different!
  • Don't enter me, but I prefer the older portrait. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think they could've done a lot better job with the newer portrait.

    Nice giveaway, though image

I like the portrait though I do miss the crown. Somehow both realistic yet flattering.

  • I have mixed feelings about the new portrait. I think it looks great on the Maple Leaf....but on the decimal coinage for circulation, it just looks...out of place somehow. It is hard to explain. The twoonie looks especially bad....maybe because there is more blank space around her relating to the next devices on the coin. Part of the problem too is that her hair is much smoother now (as opposed to the complex design of the crown). Because of this, it just doesn't fit (in my opinion)

The maple leaf on the other hand doesn't seem to fall into this trap...maybe because there is printing right above her hair, making the space seem filled in. I dunno.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  • I like the portrait, elegant and stately... Not over pretentious, and I think by now we know she is the queen, no need for the crown.

Thanks, for a chance........ Cheers image
  • Her neck has gotten a lot shorter over the years. Excellent picture and thanks for the chance!

  • The new portrait is better than some of the older ones of her and it certainly makes her look younger than she actually is. Trying to pump some life back into the monarchy. I'll bet the next portrait will have her crowned and maybe as a commem when she gives up the throne.

  • great looking coin, hail to the queen!!!image:
  • Well it is a little better, but I have to admit I find Elizabeth portraits uninspiring. Give me a young head Victoria any day.

Edited to add: After seeing the comparison below, I take it back. I like the old one better. Her new forehead bothers me, hehe.
