I recently purchased this attractively blue & brown toned eye appealing 1876-S Trade Dollar which I'm pleased to share with my fellow forum members.

I think that she's a real beauty, and am interested in getting your thoughts, observations and feedback about her. Thanks in advance for your posts! image

Nice, looks original too. I also missed the chop mark on the first look.

Cool coin, a lot of history there for not a lot of money. Most other issues that invoke that kind of history like CC Wild West or southern gold have much heavier collector Interest.

Thanks for all of your posts and kind words about my new 1876-S Trade Dollar.image

Some of the things that attracted me to this coin were the original appearing blue & brown dual-sided toning, AU+ preservation state -- as well as the strong strike exhibited by the full radial lines in stars and the olive branch being held by Miss Liberty on the obverse. I also liked the stealthy chop mark on the eagle's left leg. image

I'm looking forward to receiving her soon to see how she looks in person.

I like it a lot, for all the reasons you mention.

I think the obv. toning gives it a kind of cam look. image

Very nice example. I'm on the hunt for a trade dollar myself and would love to own own as nice as this one. Nice work

As an update... I received this Trade Dollar during the weekend, and it exceeds my expectations based on the Heritage Auction photos posted earlier in this thread which do not depict the coin's luster.

The coin possesses satiny to semi-prooflike mint luster in the fields, with lightly contrasting frosty cameo devices.

When the coin is rotated in light, the blue brown toning is beautifully illuminated by the reflected light that emanates through it. image

    A 2fer.

Stunner on the obverse, and history on the reverse.

    Nice pick-em-up.

  • Shhhhh we don't want it to get too out that traded dollars can be quite attractive all while being impressively large and historically interesting. I really don't know why they are ignored in the market place but I never would have been able to afford my set if they weren't.
