This week Great Southern Coins has a 1922 Grant Commemorative up for eBay auction....My question is.

How do they have 100% feedback and an eBay feedback rating of 92,780?
They sell a ton of raw coinage.....remember TopLine coins?

Raw images look juiced to me.
Can anyone explain the phenomenon known as GSC?

I have yet to have a problem with them. They seem to get all kinds of Lincoln's in all kinds of grades for my interest. They got large format pictures and delivery is quick. They accept returns and they do sell cleaned stuff but the pics pretty much tell that story.

In my honest opinion that statement hardly describes the nature of their photography. How can one possibly begin to judge the surfaces (i.e. hairlines/polishing) with the light blanking out the entirety of the coin, especially on the obverse. I always figured that the functionality of photographs was to minimize the need for returns and an upgrade from purely textual descriptions, not an obligatory part.

GSC....I believe they employ 25-30 people. Its no small operation, Ive bought a coin from them....came as pictured. Grant commems to me come with a lot of polish lines. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with everything they do, but they have hell of a system staked out.

Don't think the pics were juiced, but that's nowhere near gem BU.

Search the forum threads going back a couple of years and there's much discussion of their operation, photography and coins.

I've purchased a Buff or two from them a couple of years ago. One of them later turned dark and the other is OK though I don't think it was as nice as it appeared in their photo. Another was fine....

I find their Peace dollars are often over graded in their descriptions- just my opinions here.
Some have had good experiences as WS describes. The coins sure look nice in the pictures though and thre are indeed some nice ones that come through raw. The photos are sonice though that they most often get bid way up! Sometimes perhaps too high for an ungraded coin IMO.

Interesting operation though and i often wonder how they come into so many nicely struck and strong looking Buffs?

If a buyer is unhappy Great Southern will accept the return and refund the money without any hassles. If a buyer gets his money back he usually wont leave negative feedback. He's just happy to have his money back.

In the past I have seen a couple career fake sellers of ancient coins on eBay with 100% feedback. All of their inventory is fake. But they had a generous return policy. The buyers that realized their coin was a fake always got their money back. A good return policy keeps negative feedback to a minimum even if a seller is selling junk.

That is why a 100% feedback doesn't necessarily mean much. An honest seller will have it. But so can a dishonest seller.
I collect history in the form of coins.

Advertising on the boards helps a great deal.

I agree with this. There are sellers that go out of there way to keep the feedback, and they get away with insanely juiced images and other issues.
