Let's go for "The Big Set" together on the Registry!

I mean the U.S. Coins Complete Set with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1792-present).

We won't be competing in this set individually, but collectively (no pun intended).

And grade is not important. Merely the percentage of completion, to see how much of it we can do.

Anything goes, gradewise, so everyone with PCGS US coin(s) that fit can participate.

If you see an empty slot in the Wikiset and you have a coin to fill it, you can claim that real estate as your own and nobody can "bump" your coin from the set unless you agree to it. This way you can become at least a tiny stakeholder in what should most likely become one of the more interesting collections on the Registry. Even a PO01 coin can have the prestige of being a Wikiset inclusion, if you're the first to claim the slot.

I hereby volunteer as our "Registrar" and will start us off with my 1804 Spiked Chin half cent in VF20. (It just so happens to be the only PCGS graded US coin I own for the moment, as of this posting, but of course that fluctuates.) We made our debut at #66 with my one modest addition.

Want to play? PM me or post your cert numbers (and your pictures, if you have them).

RULES AND SUGGESTED GUIDELINES
    1. First and foremost, all PCGS Set Registry rules apply. This "virtual" collection will be null and void if PCGS management deems it so for any reason. 2. You must have ownership of the coin, and agree to allow me to register it in "our" behalf. YOU RETAIN FULL OWNERSHIP OF YOUR COIN. I will register it under the "agent with permission to represent a collection" clause. If you sell it, we'll have to delete it, unless the new owner wants it to remain in the Wikiset. If this happens, the owner's name in the comments will change but you will still be listed as a previous owner. IF YOU SELL A WIKISET-REGISTERED COIN, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Ideally, the new owner will be another forum member and his or her name can be added to the ownership comments, but if the new owner does not want the coin registered or is not a known forum member, I will delete it.3. No upgrades of existing coins will take place unless the owner of the coin to be replaced agrees to be "bumped". If I add somebody else's cert number and accidentally deregister one of your coins from the Wikiset without contacting you first, let me know.4. Coins that are ALREADY registered will not work here! Obviously, your additions to the Wikiset cannot be registered to any of your other Registry sets or I won't be able to register them. So only contribute the ones you are not already using in your own sets, and/or which you do not intend to register yourself.
NOTE: If I should do one of my periodic disappearances from the Internet and you need to contact me regarding this collection or any of the coins therein, feel free to call 912-261-8408 and ask for Rob. I vanish from time to time, but so far, I've always come back!

    Thanks.

    We have our first joiner.

Never in a dozen years would I have expected my ancient coin buddy bronzemat to step up and be the first US coin participant on the Wikiset.

He will justly go down in history as the first plank owner.

Musky1011- you are Wikiset Contributor #3. Everybody from here on please sign off by your Contributor number and post your stuff here so I can keep it all straight! Thanks.

You can still PM or email me pix if you prefer, but post a note in your reply saying you'll be doing so, so I will know when and where to go back and check for them. Otherwise, just post them here like Jim did- that's fine, if the pix aren't too big.

    Martin is Contributor #4.

MFH is contributor #5, having contributed our first Eliasberg pedigreed coin.

Edit- whoops- nope- it's already registered in his set.

Remember, folks, I cannot register your coins if they are already in YOUR sets. YOU can use YOUR coins in multiple sets, but that's because you're under the same user profile. I cannot. So do not offer them here UNLESS you have no intention of using them in your own Registry sets.

Bronzemat PM-ed me pictures of his contributions.

Thanks, everyone. I'll get busy and start adding the new stuff.

Again, please post stuff in the open here to help me keep it straight so it doesn't get buried in my PM inbox. (But of course you are welcome to PM me too.)

Martin- your cert numbers didn't work. Appears those coins are registered elsewhere?

MFH- ditto. Your Eliasberg Merc appears to already be registered.

Musky- added your V-nick, above, and will try to catch up with the Bust halves you just mentioned.

I might have created a monster with this project. Bear with me if I get snowed under and anything falls through the cracks, y'all.

For the first hour or so all I saw were tumbleweeds and began to wonder if I had created another dud.

Now it is starting to look like that is not the case.

I would love to contribute but I'd have to permanently delete the coins from my inventory and registries in order for you to add them, if I understand correctly.

I guess I understand the technical reasons but I think it's going to hurt the effort.

Thank you for offering your coins, but of course I do not want you to delete them from your inventory just so we can register them here.

That technicality is actually the twist. The curveball, see. This collection will be made up of coins that the owners do NOT have registered elsewhere.

Most Registry players quite naturally keep their "big guns" for their own sets. I wouldn't expect otherwise.

However, some of us (myself included, currently) do not have other Registry sets and don't really have any intention of so using our coins.

This set will be nice enough in spite of the challenge mentioned above. Note the big guns which SmEagle1795 just "lent" us. They'll really add class to this collection, but I think he said they will be his only participation in the Registry.

So not ALL the big guns out there have already been registered, apparently!

Again, everybody please read Rule #4 at the top. It's a killer for some folks who are already in the Registry.

But a welcome challenge in the building of this particular collection.

I hereby reserve a place for his 1850 large cent.

<< <i>I would like to reserve a spot for a coin that I have sent in for grading.....if it does not get put in a Gen holder its an 1850 Large cent .....

Let me know if this is ok.

    Alan >>

Alan, that's fine- just let me know the cert number when you have it. Even if it goes into a Genuine holder I think we can still register it. It will default to PO01 if that is the case, but I do not have a problem with that, as mentioned. PO01 coins and Gennies are welcome here. Everyone can play, as long as there is an empty slot to put their coin into. I am unconcerned with how we do in grade average, but would like to see how much participation and how high a completion percentage we can get.

I hope to add this coin to the "Collaborative WikiSet", this coin will never leave my possession (Until I pass on) and it is not in a set. This coin was a gift from the Open Forum members (Mostly) upon my return from my first Iraq tour. It means a lot to me.

    Thanks for your consideration,
    Ray

Wow, what a Registry set, huh. Even with our combined efforts and over $20K worth of coins in the first day, we only just crossed the half-a-percent completion level and now rank 53rd after Martin's additions.

I guess it was a little easier back in the days of Eliasberg and Norweb and others of that ilk. Would have still been a daunting quest indeed, but at least they had a lot less slots to fill than we do now, in the early 21st century.
