i thought to myself, well crap, someone scraped the nose with a knife or something and after a couple looks nearly tossed it into the circulation pile, but wait, the lighting looks off for pmd, lets take a closer look!

The gouges on Jefferson's nose look like a deliberate re-engraving attempt by the ghost of a San Francisco mint worker from 1878. Quite cool!

This my big schnozz Jefferson. Sorry I couldn't get a better picture. Not only does his nose appear to be a little longer but the nostril is filled so it looks fatter.

This is my floating head Jefferson. Not sure if this is due to over polishing (don't see lines) or a weak strike.

I see a remnant of a clashed die, the line from the memorial base in back of the bust, but it seems they really went to town polishing on the neck area. I have seen others similar to this but there is usually a bit of the collar left. Wonder what the Mint rules are or if there are any for polishing the dies?

I recently had an ebayer return a coin because he said it was cleaned.

The coin had some really cool die scratches that the newb thought was cleaning, lol.
