I bought a coin today...

tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,198 ✭✭✭✭✭
... for $260k that I sold six years ago for $325k. Hmmmmmm.

Anyway, I couldn't resist. Yes, it has a fingerprint, but it's one of the most amazing bust dollars ever.

20% discount back to 2005 levels....sounds about right for higher quality coins. The lesser ones are still at 30-40% haircuts.

Sounds like the 1799 bust dollar in MS66. Hang tight. A lot of more of the nice coins you sold back years back will be showing up in 2012 as well.

At $260K, I wouldn't want any "yes...but"s on my coin.

Sounds like it wasn't such a hot investment for that guy. Did you pay more, less or the same this time versus the previous time?

Nice and I doubt that Tru-View is doing it justice...

Yet didn't you also recently purchase as MS65 with a fingerprint image

Nice coin but I don't like that Tru-View pic at all.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • SeattleSlammerSeattleSlammer Posts: 10,048 ✭✭✭✭✭
I agree that the pic is horrible. I assume that the coin is not neon white?

Funny how people think the finger print is cool here but extremely repulsive if it's on a cheaper coin.

    Nice coin though.

Nobody saying how it's dipped and re-toned either.

Dipped and retoned? Nope. Totally original dollar dripping with luster held in a family collection for nearly two centuries.

Not saying you're right or wrong but just because it has been in the same family collection for nearly 2 centuries proves nothing to the fact that the coin may or may not have been messed with before. JMHO
  • tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,198 ✭✭✭✭✭
While that is true, the preponderance of the evidence indicates that it has not.

Regarding other comments, the coin is not grey, not drab, not messed with in any way
  • DD Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭
Also, +1 for usage of preponderance of evidence, I haven't heard this since Business Law.

Heritage for the coin as well. For those of you not wanting to search. It's possible that the coin is just difficult to image.

Holy cow that coin looks so much darker image

The coin is nice though. IMO the HA pictures make the coin look better than the truviews. I'm surprised there's such a big difference between the two sets of photos.

    My thoughts also.
What a difference. Those Tru-View pics are really cartoonish

is that an adult sized fingerprint or a child sized fingerprint?

Having been in one family for so long you would think that they passed it around at least once during high tea and someone did not listen to grandpa's warning!

nevertheless, an awesome coin in all respects and the die crack on the reverse adds so much charm.

I showed this posting to my wife and fortunately for me, she did not correct me about the grandpa's comment.

She did not insist or mention grandma.
