Just read the Numismatic News regarding ANA By-laws and YN's

There's an article in the April 12th Numismatic News regarding changes in ANA by-laws.
I'm proud of Scott Rottinghaus, Wendell Wolka, Walt Ostromecki, and Tom Hallenbeck as they voted to allow YNs to vote in general elections. Being a former dues-paying YN member of the ANA, I see no reason why the voting age should not be 13. It's an organization that they are paying to join (some, like I did, as life members!)
I'm not sure the justification, but it appears that Jeff Garrett, Joe Boling, JP Martin, Cliff Mishler and Alan Herbert are against YNs voting in ANA elections. I'd appreciate a response from these gentlemen as I'm a bit surprised in their stance. The ANA truly needs to be more YN-friendly if they want the organization to thrive and with stances like this, I'm not sure they realize this.
Until I receive an explanation, I will withhold my vote from these board members in the future and will look forward to moving in a board with views that may be similar to mine.

At the last election my kids read the campaign material and told me who they thought I should vote for. I think they knew more about the election than I did and the oldest was only 12 at the time.
It doesn't surprise me that Walter Ostromecki voted for the kids right to vote. My oldest son met Walter at the Central States show in Milwaukee and Walter was great. He made a very positive impression on my son. Walter took him around to a few dealers and introduced my son and then he sent him off to a bunch of other dealers to get free numismatic materials. Walter probably spent half an hour with him at the show and also suggested he paige at the ANA which he did along with his younger brother. He also wrote a paper for the Young Numismatist Literary award. His involvement in the ANA is probably greater than many members and he has met a bunch of the ANA Board in person.
If the person is a dues paying member, whether that is paid by them or the parent it is their name on the membership, they should be allowed to vote, imho.
I am currently an ANA member, just renewed, and I don't like this change at all (hadn't heard of it prior). Too bad they didn't put it up for a vote, but probably figured they wouldn't get it passed if they did.

They didn't change the by-laws, but Mr. Rottinghaus suggested that they allow 13-18 year olds to vote...hopefully they fix this in the near future.
But to not vote for Mishler based on this one issue only? Sheesh. Throwing out the baby with the bath water. Look at the big picture. It's called the art of voting. You will never agree with anyone 100% on all issues.

You have to be 18 to vote in your local, county, state or federal election...
You can begin working at 14...
You can begin driving at 15/16...
If you're a working and productive citizen at 14, shouldn't you be allowed to vote for your representatives at 14? Why did society chose to allow citizens to begin voting at 18 in lieu of 14? Maybe the ANA mirrors society?
This is America folks. I support letting YN's vote but that is the argument the five board members used AFTER getting "legal" opinion.

Let's hope Walt gets elected President. His opponent is from "the bad old days" and was one of the group who got swept out of office. Same with Herbert.
It's time, IMHO, for those dinosaurs to move on and out. Anyone who was on the Board that kicked Walter off should be denied our votes if they are running for any office this time.
If we forget, we'll go back and begin to repeat the worst time in modern ANA history, again IMHO.
Anyone 13 or over that is in this hobby and an ANA member should be allowed to vote.

Why not allow YN a 1/2 vote per member?
To me this makes sense. This gives YN's some say but perhaps this concept would be agreeable to all parties?
It also makes sense and seems fair to me since the YN's 1/2 vote would be commensurate with their reduced membership rate.
I'd like to hear more about this if anyone here has more details.
