This is a nice new touch on the PCGS Certification page.....there is now auction information on your

I was doing a quick lookup of my 1833 CBH on the PCGS Certification page and noted that the coin had previously sold on 2 auctions.
This is most helpful information and a very nice "free" feature from PCGS.
My only concern is if the coin is re-submitted for the Secure Plus service, will the old PCGS number get lost in the transaction?
I know that two of my PCGS CBH's which were won on Stack's auction were sent in for Secure +, and they are not showing the Stack's history.
Anyway, thanks PCGS!!

Very cool. I wonder if it will also include Ebay sales? I have two that I had sold on Ebay in January that aren't included (yet?).
  • I hope they include coins sold on eBay, but I think that would probably be a lot more work than including information from just the major auction houses. Now here's a challenge: find the coin that has the most previous sales listed.

Pretty neat. I looked up a few coins of mine and the auction information isn't there. I'd be happy to provide that info if there was an easy way to do so.

I also noticed that the cert verification also now tells everyone who's registry set the coin is listed in (if any). Not sure yet how I feel about that information being public simply from a cert verification. Edited to add that I now see that it doesn't seem to share the owner of every coin in a users inventory, but seemingly only when that coin is being shared in a public set.

Quite nice. I found some auction appearances for my coins going back to 1997.

Coins I purchased on eBay are not showing up but those purchased via Teletrade and DLRC are appearing.

Too cool! The first cert # I looked up was a 2000-D MS67FS Nickel... the earliest record is 2004 ($1900) and latest is 2010 ($500)... I paid $400! Go Moderns! image

  • Really nice addition. Kudos to PCGS.
  • I got a link for a free preview of Coin Facts when verifying some certification numbers a few weeks ago and on the Coin Facts pop-up information of the coin there were recent auctions prices of PCGS graded coins from the same series and date on eBay with the grade and date of the sale and realized price.

Too cool...I just copied into my registry the Heritage description..."Deep cream-gray and sun-gold toning envelops this intricately struck low mintage quarter. Mildly prooflike, and marks are limited to trivial contact on the upper reverse field." Wonder if someone will think I was smart enough to describe it that way - LOL.

    Thanks for the info.

It's neat in that it tells you the coins auction history (those that report). It can also tell you (in general) if you paid too much or got a deal!

Plus, it helps when trolling for good things with a listed cert. 0to see if the asking price is way over inflated to what the seller paid at auction and can help stategize a counteroffer, assuming a short turn around time of course. Wonder how long it will be before sellers stop advertising their cert.'s because of this?image

This is a cool new feature that we introduced at our FUN show luncheon.

It can be usefull in several ways, but its primary purpose is to help people identify counterfeit coins and/or holders. If someone is offering you a coin (god forbid - you are considering buying a coin from Craigs list) you can now go to cert verification and see if the coin has been in auction and/or if it is in a Registry set. Comparing those photos to the coin being offered to you may save you from buying a bad coin. It's not fool proof but it will help in many cases.

The following auctions are included in our database - PCGS auction archives and represent almost 2 million lots.

We started adding eBay lots a couple months ago and have almost 40,000 listed. Unfortunately, eBay takes down the information after the sale so the photos are lost.

  • i look up the cert for a 2006 W gold buff that i bought from the mint and had graded. i sold the coin and now on the cert lookup i see the coin sits in the #1 gold buff registry set. image

Pretty cool. It looks like there is at least one other site they link to. Teletrade shows on one of my dime. It shows the set it is in, too.

This must only work if the coin keeps the same cert number. I have a couple from Heritage that don't show up in the certification page.

    I like it.

I found some older auctions that a few of my coins sold in before I got hold of them.image

Exactly... I recently sent my set in for Secure Plus regrade and pedigree service so I got all new cert numbers on my set. Accordingly, all information tied to my old cert numbers is apparently lost as all of them now show up with no auction history.

PCGS should add something to the Registry Inventory where we can insert former cert numbers of our coins so that the information carries. May be difficult for them to verify, but with auction photos it's not impossible.
  • Very nice feature, just found that one of my 1821 bust halfs was ex: meyer.

So I see. I didn't notice that when I read it Thursday.image My comprehension skills are diminishing.

I don't suppose it will work with coins that have been crossed that had previously been purchased from Heritage.

Could you imagine how long something like that would have taken in the days of printed auction catalogs!

What a great implementation of IT technology for collector's gain. Thanks PCGS!

Here's an example where previous auction linkage could hurt current eBay auctions like this one for DLRC.

Hmmm...only about a 50% markup, give or take image
Yes...I was thinking the same thing when I looked some up. I like the feature, on one hand, but on the other hand, I don't like the issues that can come with it.

I did like seeing the 2 previous auctions from 2004 on one of my coins.....I bought it in 2010, so not sure how many hands it has gone through since then (at least 1 other one...the one I bought it from).
In this case, I like the fact I know it has been plasticized for at least 6+ years (since it is copper, I worry a lot less of it having troubles)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

That DLRC coin is not at a fair asking price when you see the past 2 auctions, Bochiman!!!

This can't be good for sellers, maybe this will increase the crack out's.
