PCGS Just wacked one of my Indian Cents from my registry set today, they no longer consider it a va
I got an email today letting me know that my 1869/69 S-4 has been removed from my registry set as PCGS no longer consideres it a variery,
WOW,, What a bummer
Just got an email from PCGS as follows,:
After I questioned why PCGS wanted the 1869/69 S-4 removed when, even though it is not CPG, it is a legitimate variety that PCGS grades, the grading room reversed the decision. I have given the coin its own slot back in the complete sets. I apologize for this inconvenience. This has resulted in some better checks and balances and in the future, no coin will be removed unless it has been reviewed by more than one expert and there is agreement that the coin should be delisted.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
<< <i>PCGS removed a dime from the Mercury Dime set about a month ago as well. Sorry to hear the news.

They pulled my 1941-S DDR that it took two years for me to find.

<< <i>Does removing a coin like that ( from the registry) kill the value? >>
Absolutely. Takes away the demand for the coin. It's their game and their rules. Do you want to play or not? I choose to play.

To be fair a collection with a 58 DDO is more often than not cooler than a set without one or just a 41DDO.

I would agree that the 58 DDO is a great coin. The problem is that only three individuals will ever make a complete variety set. Many collectors strive for a completed collection
do they not? Shag
Of course if I owned one of the 3 I'd be all for it

There's always the risk that things may not work out as you like if you let other people determine what you collect. Not that there's anything wrong with it if it's really what you want to do, of course.

I would say, without a doubt...YES!

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Second, there are several dime varieties that there are zero of at this time. This does not mean they should be taken out....in my opinion. I enjoy the hunt.
But I DO NOT like the prospect that if I do find a rare variety.....someday it could just be taken off.....just like that!!!

60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
They may be fun to collect, but they really aren't very important.

But Wait…
What if you want to ADD a variety...Incredibly simple is it not? Just email the Registry folks, and Wa La! Your variety is added. Sure it’s their game. It’s just too bad they do not understand it could all be improved.
