I'd be happy to put your name on the list and even tell people what a great collector you are...for my choice of one of your nice Fugios.

    I'll assume that means "no".

  • A few you might wish to add would be George F. Seavey from the 19th century and Eric P. Newman from the 20th century.

I'm with Fletcher, where is my name? image

That is quite a list and I am sure I will be dead and still not qualify for the list. image
  • For Morgans, there are many. Jack Lee built some of the nicest sets and sold them. I think he did this three times. Binion, Fitzgerald, Redfield are non-collector pedigrees, and all tend to trade at premiums, or sell very quickly if priced the same.

For post-1934 the Omaha Bank Hoard is a pedigree that isn't worth much, many coins seem low end for the stated grade. Some observe the same with the Wells Fargo for classic gold.

Could there be a slabbed gold dollar with the Adolphe Menjou pedigree? Considering the sale took place in 1950...... Id Kill for that coin...the knave, the knave.........

The only two better-known pedigrees I own right now are a raw holed ancient Roman gold solidus of the emperor Zeno (ca. 476 AD) that is ex-Eliasberg (it's the centerpiece of my Holey Gold Hat), and a Terner pedigreed PCGS MS64 British 1901 gold half-sovereign (Terner was apparently a big name when it came to British gold).

I had a Benson-pedigreed PCGS PR63 CAM Barber half and a PCGS MS63 (or -64) RB 1854 French 10-centime piece with a Bass pedigree, I believe, which I scooped up for less than twenty bucks on Teletrade years back.

  • Does anyone know if any coins from Byron Reed's collection have been slabbed and pedigreed? I know most of the collection is still intact, but I remember hearing a while back that some of the pieces were sold off.

    Just wondering.

But...I don't recall ever seeing a coin for sale with his name listed in the pedigree. I suspect they are out there, but rarely seen.

That's probably because people who own them don't want to sell them!

Does a plate coin from the ANA grading book have any additional value? I own the $2 1/2 Lib gold coin in MS shown in that book. They got the pic from their archive of coin pics from the days when they were issuing the photo certificates. I recognized my coin in their book and contacted them. They were kind enough to send me a letter on official letterhead stationery confirming that it was indeed my coin. It currently resides in an old ANACS MS64 slab and I still have the original photo certificate.

I think it's a pretty cool story and certainly adds a level of interest to the coin. It may add some additional value too...to some collectors. image

    For Walking Liberty Half Dollars:
    GBW
    Sounder
    Dawson Oskey
    Ray Cassano
    The aforementioned Jack Lee.
  • I have a medal in my collection that is ex. Requa collection. In doing a little research, the Requa collection seemed to have a lot of colonials and early coppers.

    "Daniel Valentine

    Steve Gutscher
    Mark Smith"

Did you mean Eric Gutscher? All great half dime collections.

    To these I would add:

    Jules Reiver
    William A. Harmon
    Dr. Stuart Levine
    Stewart Witham
    Will W. Neil
    Harold P. Newlin
    Ed Price

The Alan Epstein pedigree for Indian Heads has to be listed.

He assembled the first great set, and you'll find many of his
coins in the finest sets today.
