Update on Ebay: aboncom--possible SHILLER

I have done some digging on this seller and have found 1 and possibly more shills or other user names for him/her. coin44 and possibly mr.lee3.

Notice both users feedback and decide for yourself. I have made my decision long ago. This seller has got to go. I have been in business for myself and it is the few bad that bring down ALL the good.

Just a refresher, this is aboncom

mr.lee3 is not quite as active as coin44, but still shows 92% bidding activity with aboncom over the past 30 days.

Unfortunately, ebay and PayPal both benefit from shills too, so why should they want to do anything about it? image

  • Is there any way to search based on %bidding with same seller? I didn't see anything with the advance search.

Would be interesting to see how many are close to the 100% range.

Reported. The more people that will report it, the greater the chances of shutting this scumbag down.

Same sellers feedback, 60 pages x 25 per page = 1500 auctions x $5.00 avg shipping rate = $7,500.00 shipping cost for 1 year of winning auctions.

Man, I hope they combined for coin44

This guy's a PowerScrewer™ with over 150,000 FB rating. It'll take a whole lot of complainin' before ebay even bats an eyelash at this schemer.

coin44 might have one of those exclusive eBay contract's that only allows him to single source his coin purchases!

    That is total bull$hit........

As a buyer shilling doesn't bother me much. It's a different way of setting a reserve price.

However, this seller has been filleted and fried on here many times for much worse things than shilling.

  • My method, especially with ebay....I contact everybody who bids on any of their items and tell them if the illegal methods, phoney coins, cleaned or altered coin, and for them to remove their bid . It works. Also found a guy who was selling altered mint date coins and was selling one a week saying it was one that he found at a coin show. Ebay removed him.

  • why would someone shill bid on an item that sells for $10 or less.

that's the one item I clicked on......

If you sold 1245 items in 30 days and the shill produced on average a $1 per auction, then you are $1,245 richer after the fact!!

EDITED: after 12 months it starts adding up to some real money. Reminds of the Song lyrics - "one piece at a time and it didn't cost me a dime". Johnny Cash image

  • I am not a fan nor a critique of Aboncom. You have found proof "positive" of 2 shill bidders on a seller with over 150k feedback?

Amazing how quickly the forumites want to hang this seller when people will bend over backwards twice to protect someone who is well liked.....

Before drawing and quartering anyone, don't you need EVIDENCE????? It is easy to get. Examine every purchase made in the past from Aboncom, compare each purchase with the others and then you may be entitled to make slanderous remarks about them!!!

This thread is only one thing----HYPOCRITICAL

I've watched this aboncom through a couple of iterations over the last 7 years. Shills are nothing new.
I wouldn't defend him at all as that would be making me look stupid and bad.

This isn't the first time, wouldn't be the last, where this aboncom will be controversial and in the wrong.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

At the very least, you need to be able to show the same bidder is rebidding on the exact same coin(already won); even then, it's a "tough sell".... Without "provable" documentation, it's an exercise in futility.

Here ya go. Coin44 bidding history. and Mr. Lee's bidding history, while not 100% toward Aboncom, still an extremely high percentage.

The same way people have time to investigate and "expose" alleged shill bidding on a seller they don't like. I'm not going to defend aboncom either, but shill bidding is pretty tough to prove. For years I spent thousands of dollars on BU rolls from the same mail order dealer. Maybe those bidders just like aboncom's items? There's plenty of counterfeit and misrepresented crap on Ebay. Maybe time might be better spent reporting that.

I have seen this seller in the past on ebay, but it looks like this is the well for SGS slabs. Kind of like the INB schlabs that always appear that go back to THIS seller and BS stories to go with each auction.

And you do this exactly how, now that eBay has anonymized all bidders?
