2004 cent with Christian cross punch-out

At our local supermarket, I often ask the service desk if they have received any odd or unusual coins. I've been doing this for years, and yesterday evening, I got what was -- by far -- the most interesting thing they have every set aside. It is a 2004 cent with a Christian cross stamped through the coin. It's in pretty bad shape -- looks like environmental damage.
It seems to me that there is a term in numismatics for coin alteration to express religious or political beliefs. I just can't recall it -- anybody know the term?
Anyway, this was a very unusual 'supermarket find'.
