So sad! CU regular, Tim Mastin passed away (erinstubby) - We raised so far: $5,040! THANKS COIN FOLK

over $5000 was raised over the past few days, and part of this was donated by some of you "coin people"! And most of you kind people did not even know who Tim was, but you sent a donation anyway! very generous indeed! If any other would like to send a donation, you still can if you hurry, as gumbyfan (Craig) will update your donations in the morning. TIA Robert
Just a heads-up for you here on the CU PCGS/U.S. Coin Forum thread.
Tim Mastin (erinstubby) just passed away last week. Tim was in his 30s and left behind a wife and three kids!
Tim was a sportscard (PSA) hobbyist and while battling with an illness, right up to the end, kept-up his collection efforts and was a well-liked contributor over on the PSA/CU threads.
Can you imagine a young widow's (with three children) sadness, spending the Xmas holidays without a husband and father?
Very sad indeed! Read this link to Tim's story! Your heart will break! So pleeeeeze donate a little something!
Craig (known as gumbyfan) started a group donation on the PSA/CU threads, and in just 2 short days, folks have 'stepped-up to the plate' and raised so far, $ 5,040.00 in donations, wow!
Craig (gumbyfan) has been kind enough to match all paypal fees so that 100% of every donation will be sent to Tim's widow and children.
PLEEEEZE GET YOUR DONATIONS IN BY THE END OF MONDAY NITE FOOTBALL TONIGHT! AS CRAIG (gumbyfan) WILL BE SENDING AN EXPRESS MAIL TO SURPRISE TIM'S WIDOW, SO WILL RECEIVE A CHECK FOR XMAS! SO PLEEEEEZE, ALL YOU COIN FOLKS, EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW TIM, GIVE A LITTLE TONITE! AND THANKS TO ALL YOU COIN GUYS WHO "STEPPED-UP TO THE PLATE" YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!
I thought I would open this up to the PCGS threads as well, as the "holiday spirit" should not be limited to just the PSA/CU threads, but should include the PCGS/CU community also, as I cannot think of a nicer thing to do this holiday season!
So if you want to donate something to Tim's family, gumbyfan made it easy to make a donation, via paypal:
1. you can PM me and I'll pass your message to Craig (gumbyfan) that you want to contribute.
2. just say "I'm in"/or pm sent below, and I'll see that Craig PM's you with instructions.
3. or you can contact gumbyfan directly (here is the link to his thread on the PSA boards):

Thank you in advance!
Happy holidays!

*** UPDATE *** We are now up to $4,365!! I will continue to update this post with the latest number so everyone can know where we are at. Thanks again!
Very nice of you to do this for the family. My cousin died suddenly in 2001 from cardiac arrest in his mid-30's leaving a wife and young son - I know the struggles they went through.

I heard from Craig (gumbyfan) that within minutes of posting this "donation plea" for Tim's family, some of you "stepped right up" and made a donation.
I've been touched by our CU message board community with your generosity.
If you have not made a donation yet, pleeeeeeze do so.
It will warm your heart.
Sincerely,

edited: refund received. And make that first sentence read "Tim must have been a real POS to try to cheat his Forum friends."

I'm shocked..actually I'm not..I know of a woman who faked cancer for some donations...
<< <i>My donation has been refunded. I'm sticking to my regular charities from now on, and find myself a bit more cynical and suspicious of pleas for help. That's too bad. >>
Unfortunately, this has happened to a lot of us. This isn't the first, nor will it be the last.
it sounds like a crime to me.
Happy and heathy New Year!
I just wanted to thank all you coin people that contributed. It was kind of you to donate to someone that was unknown to you. When I heard "erinstubby" was not really dead. I freaked-out!
It is sooooooooo hard for me to believe that something like this happened.
You PCGS people were responsible for, I'm guessing 15-20% of the total amount riaised. I'm glad that "gumbyfan" (Craig), was made aware of this guy, not being dead, ...before he sent out the $5,000+ raised from folks on these threads!!!
And he (Craig, "gumbyfan"), luckily, was able to refund everyone of us, who made a donation.
So, nobody, lost any money!
My point here was that a bunch of CU members (from sportscard and coin forum alike), were able to raise over five grand, just shows what kind of individuals post on our threads, ...as it warmed my heart to see how nice people are here (on these threads).
So "Tim Mastin" (erinstubby), or whoever you really are, "what goes around, comes around"!
Sincerely and again, I "make a toast" to you all!

Robert
