SHOP AT HOME TV-COIN VAULT ENDS MARCH 7TH

SteveSteve Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭
After MANY years of providing entertainment to the coin hobby, Shop at Home TV is stopping its television broadcasts after Friday, March 7th. They will then be a strictly internet shopping network with NO television. With this change, Robert Chambers and his "Coin Vault" program will cease. Whether or not he gets picked up elsewhere is not known at this time. I know a lot of posters here may think this is a good thing for the hobby because the presumption is that they overcharge for coins. In reality, we all overpay for many things we buy, either knowingly or not. The fact is this programing brought lots of people into the hobby. Most who stayed learned quickly what they needed to pay to get quality coins. The show provided great entertainment to those of us who are fimiliar with coin prices. For the last year I could only see this show on www.shopathometv.com since my local cable company dropped the network. Anyway, I'm sorry to see it go and I thought if any of you want to see the last two weeks you better check it out now. Coin Vault occupies about 80% of the programing 24 hours a day. Steveimage

Don't expect the Coin Vault to go away. Not likely, at all.

Where will Robert Chambers show up next ? I Love the Coin Vault. It's so great to have running in the background, like white noise.

I have never watched that.........image but have heard many opinions, about their....."offerings." Looks like people are going(and waking-up) elsewhere for their "TV" shopping,ie. On-line to shop.

If they were to go away for good, it will impact the market, especially for the dealers who supply them with a lot of the bulk silver dollar deals and graded moderns.

What a shame, one less unethical scam artist.

  • I remember not too long ago they were supposed to go off the air but then some jewelry network bought them and they kept them on. They're based in Nashville, not too far from me. I'll have to go see if I find Robert Chambers and Sean Lefler in the unemployment line. image

A little fun fact for those not in the middle Tennessee area. Robert Chambers actually does tv commercials around here pushing a Nashville dentist clinic called Dental Bliss in his usual slicked back, slimey used car salesman hairstyle. image

In spite of high prices, I cannot help but enjoy Robert's voice, his presentation skills and his numismatic knowledge. It is entertaining.

Good riddance. But like the common roach it will likely survive somewhere for the next million years.

Not too long ago, I remember them being canned entirely, with their online store completely removed from shopathometv.com or whatever it was.

    They'll be back...

I watch it for strictly for entertainment purposes. I like watching each new years bullion in Janurary. I will miss that part. Though Robert got me hooked on the ASE's I have to admit even though I collected them before ever seeing the show. Before I came to forums, I bought one coin that was way overpriced. I sold it last year for a $700 loss. It was a shipwreck SS. Republic 1861 O Half Dollar No Rays. No one to blame but myself. I do believe though the show has brought new collectors to the hobby. Whether those new collectors will stay when they try to sell their coins bought from Coin Vault.......

It was just announced that Robert Chambers is going to Shop NBC effective March 11th. I checked out Shop NBC. com and see that their only prior coin related stuff was coin jewelry. Nothing yet on the site about Robert, but he had a one minute spiel about the move during one of the half hour brakes. Robert will be LIVE on the last three hours of Shop at Home with Coin Vault on this coming Friday from 9PM to 11:59PM Eastern time. The whole network stops then and the website becomes JTV.com. I am planning to watch this final show via the internet at www.shopathometv.com. My local cable company dropped Shop at Home over a year ago, but I am happy to find that Shop NBC is on my local cable 24/7. I've never watched it, but I will make a point to see Robert when he first comes on.

It has been my experience that Robert and Coin Vault is the best coin shopping network program around. They certainly dominated the hours in recent times on Shop at Home. I, of course, have NEVER purchased anything, but just enjoy listening to discussions about coins. When I think about what the polititions talk about every day, Robert and the gang are more honest about coins than the politicos are about world affairs. JMHO. Steveimage
