Photography setup and examples

Just wanted to get some opinions and perhaps some constructive criticism of my super el-cheapo photography setup.
All homemade, mind you.
Here's my setup (Note: the camera sits on top of my cardboard structure):

And here are some examples I just took today...
These first two were taken WITH the paper covering the ott-lite as is shown in the photos above:

These two were taken with the paper off:

And these two were taken without the ott-lite...using a standard yellow light lamp (in the background of the first two photos I showed):

So...let me know which pair you like best--any and all comments are welcome.

I've seen a lot of people jump in the fire and buy copy stands and such (not that there's anything wrong with that) and not understand the camera (not that there's anything wrong with that either).
Tis about the camera and the nut behind the wheel so to speak.
I'm on an artistic photography block right now. I can't take a good (landscape) photo to save my life. I went out for a two hour walk the other night with my DSLR and took 5 pictures. All bad. Totally uninspired to even click the shutter button and hope for luck.
It'll pass but the source of the photo comes from the photographer. A cardboard platform that is stable is ingenious. Not cheap.
I'm with you brother. Nice shots.
Real nice shots.

Nice "budget" setup and nice pics.
I like the first and last set the best. Have you tried 2 OTT lights to try to brighten up the bottom (3:00-8:00) of the coin?
Which pics represent the coin's "in-hand" look the best to you?

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

Wes: Right now I only have one ott-lite but I'm going to get another one. All of the photos are true to the coin...if it came down to it though I'd probably say set 3 is the closest to the coin's true color...although it is just a bit on the yellow side.
The thing that bothers me most is the glare at 9:00 and 2:00 that is present on all of the pictures. Perhaps having another light source will get rid of that...any ideas?
now come over and photo all my coins, make it snappy !!!!!
Or hold a piece of paper in front of the flash. If you're using flash see if there is a flash compensation setting in the camera. Not familiar with your Sony.

<< <i>Another light source will do it but so will turning off the flash and using a long shutter speed.

It's a point and shoot DSC-V1. Not that great a camera, but it gets the job done. I'd have to look in the manual to see if I can adjust the shutter speed because I don't even know if I can. BTW, none of the photos were taken with the flash.
