VAM Revisions

Forgot to post this when it came back form Leroy. I had just gotten back my VAM-23 that he declined to list the small breaks at the top edge of the right wong and through the O when I found this one. It has a HUGE cud on the denticles above PLURIBUS. The damage to the obverse die was amazing. Something to look for as I could not imagine that die staying in production long at all.

Here are a few other shots of it. There is a smaller, yet significant, cud below the date. Must have been Ash Wednesday (the day after drunken Mardi Gras) at the New Orleans Mint.

<< <i>Does yours also show slight doubling at the base of the ear? I have one that is very similar but the cud is only 1/2 as wide going from the middle of the "R" to the rt side of the "U". >>
Yes, I believe it does. This is interesting as it indicates there wasn't a single event that wrecked the die but a stepped degradation. We could make a neat animated gif if enough intermediate states could be found. Despite Leroy's criteria, I think this and similar ones are very collectible.
