    That's very interesting, from what I had read around here MS-66's were predicted to be very rare. I am shocked at this outcome of events. It's been a whole week or something right? I doubt there are many more of them.

    Thanks for the list though, it does show that, as people were thinking, the "D" mintmarks appear to be a higher quality (or just more submitted) since there are more MS65 MS66 ones.

    Though, given that the option was there for no-grades (just BU) and that PCGS is West Coast, there may have been a larger crush for the "First day of release" fun......

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Has anyone stated in their submission only to certify 63, 64 or 65 and above?

    Has PCGS been following any rule or standard as far as to certify everything or follow the submission instructions.

    As soon as I got word from the seller that our sets had shipped, I sold one of my three sets as a pre-sale (auction ended at $230). Selling one for what I saw as almost a sure profit is a way to lower the cost on the other two. I did not see many PCGS MS66 sets closing for Sunday night and thought a clear field would yield a good price. I don't see many PCGS sets listed for closing during this week, so anyone looking to hedge like me, might find a receptive audience. I plan on keeping one at least until the final pops are out, or near final by the end of the month. Some folks might have sent in their submissions by slower mail like registered and they would not have been included in pops yet.

    The wildcard is how many coins were sent in. My guess is that the final totals for First Day will be about triple the ones listed so far. I am a bit disappointed to see about 20% MS66's, I thought it would more like 5%. However, there were probably some submitters that listed that as the minimum grade and only got a few coins back in holders from their 100+.

    If the final pops seem low I'll keep at least one set for the long haul. If they jump up, I may get nervous and dump to the less knowledgeable crowd on the bay. Thanks again to Tyler for pointing out the sets for sale to the board, and thanks to Russ for providing the pops and how to get updates.

    Interesting mix in that the P's appear to be easier top obtain in MS67 (so far) yet are more difficult in 66 than the D's. Even considering that more Denver's have been graded than Phillies!

    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The coins have to be post marked and in the mail to PCGS on the first day of release. For the Washington dollars that was 2/15/07. Many coins were shipped to banks and apparently dealers well ahead of 2/15/07 with a sealer that said not to open until that day. A minimum of 100 coins is needed to qualify for the bulk grading fee rate ($6 for MS65, $8 for MS66 and up for higher grades).

    While the results are instructive, bear in mind that we have NO IDEA if it took 1,400 or 14,000 submitted coins to get the MS66's in the pop report, as we have no idea just what percentage of the submitted coins were minimum graded MS66. I believe I have seen a couple of grading reports though to suggest to me that roughly 6%-8% of the fresh coins are MS66 quality and less than 1% MS67 quality. Similar findings on the hundreds of coins I have screened outside the First Day submission process - a true MS68 specimen of this Washington Dollar should be a very exciting ultra modern coin!

    Not everyone has their grades yet, but the POPs are discouraging. these are going to be loosers for the submitters. IMO, 67's are not too tough, I have a couple in the coins I have done off line of the first day, 68's are going to be hens teeth. I wonder if the First Day really will carry a premium, these will actually be the common coins.

    Are you misreading the numbers (like some others)? There are a total of 3 MS67's out of over 2000 coins. About 20% are MS66's, the bulk of the rest are MS65. At $6 to grade each coin at MS65, break even is about $7.50. They are selling for $20 to $30 right now, and even if there are a lot more coins coming soon, as long it isn't hundreds of thousands, I can't see them going for much below $10 retail. At that price there is plenty of profit (30%), plus the excess profit gravy of the MS66s.

    First Day will almost certainly carry a premium. There are a ton of coins out there, but only what seems like a few dozen dealers were able to get and motivated to do so to send them in for First Day. Unlike First Strike, very few average folks were able to participate, and First Strike coins sell for significant premiums. Those folks who got coins at a bank usually only got one mintmark and will often be in the market to match up their sets.

    Red, Prehaps you are new to this, I've been at it for 8 years, at $20 a coin plus the fees for listing, shipping, yeh there may be a few $ in profit, now and if you don't count your time, but I do count my time and it does not pencil out at todays prices. Its $25 for a set of 65's - thats $12.50 a coin. The POPS reflect raw rolls, rolls that for the most part were not high graded for TOP coins. When you sit down and start high grading these, like I am, MS67's don't seem to be too tough. Now take me X50 others and there are going to be plenty on the market, just not first day.

    The POPs right now are already nearly as high as most of the Sac years and its only begun. The market can only take so much supply.

    Also consider that the big bulk submissions have not hit yet, they got the little 100 coin orders out of the way but the 1000 coin orders have yet to show for first day.

    The Bu's are going for $16 and the 65's

    It all depends who wants to complete a set of these in FDI or regular issue. The FDI may be less than the regular issue.
    When the future issues come out in FDI some will be looking for the Washington FDI's to complete their sets. It would be wise to hold back some of these.

    I agree, there isn't even close to a 20% rate on 66's. The numbers are being skewed by people min grading 66's. That can get expensive. --Jerry

    Interesting question as there will be at least to variations on the First Day Of Issue coins. Those that are graded and those that are just BU.

    Considering the fact that BU Graded SAE bring far less than the MS65 counterparts, my feeling is that the FDOI MS graded coins will bring much more value than the FDOI BU coins.

    Just a thought.
