San Antonio Coin Show Report 24 February

The Gateway Coin Club sponsored a small show today (30 or so tables). I contacted RichardShipp before heading out, but his schedule and mine didn't quite match (he went later than I did, so maybe he will add a report later). I had my two year old with me, so it was a VERY fast show for me. Fortunately, I also had my 11 year old stepdaughter who is a GREAT help. I went to each table, checked for bust half dimes, looked at any that were offered, then moved on. The first table had a beauty of a half dime: 1833 LM-7 (R-2) in an old, fat NGC holder (graded accurately at MS-64). The coin had great color. I liked it, but gave it back. I found one AG-obverse/F-12 reverse half dime that might be a rare variety, I have to put more study into it to see. I bought that coin for $30. I sold two half dimes (one 1829 LM-5 in ANACS AU-50 (nice toning) and the other 1835 LM-10 in SEGS MS-62 (very uniform gunmetal toning) to my favorite local dealer. I left to get my daughter some of the roasted pecans sold at the entrance (but she couldn't eat them -- they were too tough to chew for her tiny teeth) and had the urge to go back to the small bourse and purchase the 1833 half dime that I saw early on. So I went in, picked up the coin again, got a nice price concession from the dealer, wrote the check, and walked away with a nice upgrade for my set (my former piece, obtained from Jack Beymer, was an AU-50). Total time at the show was about 30 minutes. Lunch at Chuy's (my stepdaughter's favorite place) afterward was a little reward for allowing me a brief respite to look at some coins.

Cool report BD. Sounds like a good time was had and I'm anxious to hear about this possible cherrypick image

But were they any proof sets to pick?!?!?!?!?!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    Great Report Barndog.

I saw the coins you sold your "favorite local dealer". Nice pieces. How two similar coins can have such a diverse look is weird.

I only picked up a couple of pieces of silver for my daughter and traded a guy my MS66 Texas for his MS66 Texas. I'll try for a pic tomorrow. Gotta run.

probably. If I had more time (i.e., no kids in tow) I would have loved to have gone through all the cherry-able stuff at the show.
