1921-P Morgan Infrequently Reeded confusion - VAM 13 or 27A

I attributed this coin as a VAM 13 a while ago. Looks MS62/63 and I was thinking of getting it slabbed. Now I'm confused about some of the diagnostics.

Entire date is doubled/tripled.
Left stars are tripled; right stars are doubled.
E PLURIBUS is doubled and tripled.
I see the die marker of the diagonal scratch near the extra berry on the reverse.
But what's up with the die flakes over ST of STATES? It's hard to photograph, but easy to see in hand.
Did I miss another update? Does the 27A have the same die gouge near the extra berry?

Norm -- That is just an incidental die scratch at the berry. You have a VAM-27A, a nice wide-reeded variety as you know. -- John C

    John, I'm still confused.
The 27A is supposed to have tripled right stars and doubled left. Mine has tripled left stars and doubled right stars.
The 27A should have 92 doubled in the date. All of the digits are doubled on my coin... as described for the VAM 13.
27A should have E-PL doubled toward the rim. My coin doesn't have this. It has E PLURIBUS UNUM doubled at the bottom inside toward the rim... like the VAM 13.

Hmmm. I do know Leroy consolidated varieties for the 27A. Perhaps the reverse (and you obviously have the 27A reverse) was paired with a couple obverses. Or he may have seen different die states of the same pair, where the doubling/tripling was not always evident. I do know I have sent coins with tripled and beyond stars only to get a doubled description. I could have been wrong but felt sure of what I was seeing a couple times; so you never know. (I have not the best eyes in the world not the best loupes.) Maybe send it to Leroy with a note on the issues or just an email? (He should be wanting to rest from this all until later in January about now though. I'll send him email notes but will hold off on actual coins.)

This stuff is getting fun. I posted a similar type thing on the 1880-O VAM-1B earlier today too.

Why do the die gouges on your coin look nothing like the die gouges on mine?

I think Joe has made an interesting point here. Joe's gouges look right for a VAM 27A, The coin in question does not.

The coin in question appears to match the one in the vamworld page and Leroy's update image. There are various die stages for that one too.
