Only 15,000 20th Anniversary ASE Sets left.

According to Numismatic News 235,000 ASE sets have been sold as of last week. That leaves only 15,000 sets and they have to be sold out soon. Last call!!!

They are going to follow the same path the Buffs did. It's a key and it looks good. Up is the only way it can go.

If there are 15,000 left then why don't they show up on the Mint's website as being for sale? why was someone looking to buy them on the BS&T board if the Mint still has them?

    Really? Let's see something....

    * 250,000 sets @ $100 each.
    * 250,000 MAX Reverse Proofs
    * Under $30 for regular proof and under $20 for the UNC-W (that's $50 right there, so you think the RP is worth LESS than $50-$55 each, right? According to your logic)
    * The regular proofs that are from '93-'95 go for $160-$200+ each.
    * They have 370,000-400,000+ minted of each of those.

Yeah.....I REALLY believe you that they will be going for issue or below by the middle of next year image

(won't bother me if they do, actually, as I will lock in some more profit soon and the rest will be sequestered away, free and clear, for awhile, I just find it funny how people predict things like this with very little logic or thought behind it.....more like wishful thinking)

Tom......people are buying them at inflated prices because they feel the sets (or at least the RP) will go up a lot more and have already exhausted the avenues they have to get more sets while the mint's limit is 10/household.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I bought 20. Me 10 and a friend ordered more 10 for me.
I can't believe they haven't already sold out.
Especially with them bringing as much as they are on Ebay!
I was lucky enough to get 3 sets in time for First Strike submissions.

Wonder how I missed them? Nevermind. Mite order a few more then!! Just ordered 3 more. I have 3 left to fill my quota of 10.

I just placed an order for several more sets a few minutes ago. Recently how quickly has the mint been getting these orders shipped?

They are taking this long to sell out... because of the Mints' limit. This has prevented the big buyers from grabbing large groups of these. The coins are going to be very well spread out, the big marketeers are going to have to up the price to get them in quantity (perhaps that is why price is being bid up on the bay).

ROBERTB, good luck in waiting for the price to go below issue price. Are you by chance still waiting for the buffalo dollar to go back to issue price also? I realize you may not have much interest in the item.... but the market is there.

I had two sets on ebay tonight. They closed at $398 for the pair. The winning bidder was dnc_collectibles who seems to be buying a lot of these. If you do a search on ebay for this bidder, you will see they seem to be buying as many as they can get their hands on. Right after I listed them I got an email asking if I had more to sell and an offer. I think they will be triple the issue price in the near future.

I believe that in 2007, we will see the price of ungraded sets, at 350 dollars a set.

If the graded 70s keep at the present rate, graded coins will increase 20% next year.

Make fun of first strikes all you want, but I believe they will prove to be most desirable.

It's really a tough call which way they will go in price in the forseeable future. Remember that a whole bunch of sets will be hitting peoples hands sometime in the next several weeks, but demand for them by collectors and speculators will probably also be fairly strong.

I have to agree Bear. Even though the vast majority of we posters don't think much of the First Strike..... it's got the interest of the buyers, and probably will continue to do so.

  • The short term forecast looks stupidly simple. When the sold out flag goes up, the price will spike up another $50 or so on the ungraded sets. This will probably be a good time to sell for speculators. The price will probably drift down after the spike. Very few will get out at the top of the spike, and a few will greedily keep asking for those kind of prices, while it slides down bit by bit.

In my mind, the long term is tougher to figure. It is not as if these sets are under the radar. Almost everyone that collects silver eagles knows about them, and has plenty of time to get in their orders. The long sell out time of over three months is disturbing for anyone thinking of holding these long term.
  • MrKelsoMrKelso Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭
Long term these sets will hang around the $300 to $350 area. What i wonder is how many are getting broken up?

After mint calling center supervisors began freely admitting that they oversold their 10,000 AGE mintage, by forming a backup 'waiting list' of 'at least another 10,000 sets', I believe the mint has long since sold out the ASEs.

Watch to see what happens to raw AGE prices at the end of November once the mint begins to cancell all the remaining unfillable orders that they still have on their books. Many people who have orders in (myself included) will be bitterly disappointed, and will finally succum to purchasing a set either on eBay or elsewhere. I suspect that once the deliveries are completed it will drive AGEs up considerably as with certainty there will be no more supply. With that, there will be considerable carry over into ASE pricing as many collectors begin to doubt whether their ASE orders will ever be filled.

Like the '01 Buffalo set, this set has all the right factors that make it a long-term winner: Limited mintage, super-attractive nastolgic coins, and the novelty of something that's not been done before.

It's mere speculaton, but I think people will be kicking themselves for years to come when they realize that they could have purchased these so cheaply. Or don't you remember when the '95-W could be purchased for about $400? People (myself included) scoffed at $600. They froze at $850. and 'wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole at $2000'.

But the great thing about handicapping this is that's what makes a horse race doesn't it?

    Happy Collecting!

I sold 4 sets at a little lower price (they have gone up in the last week or so....about $20 a set) to the same person/place.

I didn't think I'd see the day where Silver cost more than GOLD. I've seen it a few times with the 2006 Reverse Proof Silver image vs. an ounce of 2006 W Gold.
Of course it had a few grand of $$$ 'added value' courtesy of ours truly.

Does anyone remember the 1999 Silver Proof Sets? The five set per household limit was the driving force behind their ascent to where they are now and close to a million of those were made.

I foresee similar results with these silver sets. My advice is to hold on to them as long as you can stand to in whatever form!
And I ain't lying this time.
  • They are already selling for 2X the issue price.

I would take that to mean that not all of the 250,000 sets have been struck yet.

30 sets so far from the mint. I'd buy more if there was no limit. Half will go to grading. The other half will remain unopened to decide what to do. The anniversary designation on the slab will bring a premium, so will end up grading most of them. The raw sets will sell good but not as good as a complete graded set with the 20th Anniversary designation. In this case, the slabbed version will add integrity to the set, raw sets can be played with where the PF and MS coins can be switched out. 250,000 reverse proofs will be the lowest mintage of the entire series. This coin raw will be worth at least $200 if not more in the future. There is a huge collector base for this series.

Ok, I am in. I just ordered my first 2 ASE sets 10 minutes ago by phone. They are back-ordered until December. So I will see if I get them or not. I was on hold for about 5 minutes, and the person was helpful and professional when I ordered them. Wish me luck.

Yes, as stated before, you'll get the 20th Anniv. designation, this can be good, not as good as FS, but still good.

I'd like to add that 235,000 is as of a week ago.

I've followed the counts and they have been selling at least 10,000 a week.

There should be a sellout this week or next at the latest.
