Although I love the PCGS message boards, even I would probably go nuts if I had to moderate everything that goes on here, read every thread, edit or delete things that are not allowed, move treads that are OT, etc., etc. Does anyone know if the moderator position is a full time gig? What type of employment background should a moderator candidate have? I assume that there must be several moderators who monitor the boards on a 24 hour basis, or maybe PCGS outsources the position to a center in India. Does anyone know?

I bet sportsmoderator1 would know!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Nah. PCGS already pays me to post here, and I doubt that I could get double pay for the moderator position.

As I sit here in my squalid office in Calcutta, alternating between moderating the CU boards and answering the phone as a Dell technical support specialist (Is the power plug in the wall?), I will be happy to answer your question. There are but two of us defending the gates against the barbarians. We don't sleep, have no personal lives, and the rewards? Pfft!

Qualifications are merely a matter of how much community service the judge continually slaps upon my innocent self.

It has to be part time, cause the moderators

need time for therapy sessions.

I am not a barbarian. I am a very dignified

and for the most part, refined bear.

Once upon a time (actually yesterday); I attempted to be "moderator of the day"

It's a job I can now say with experience that I wouldn't want

Even being equipped with a whip, chair and a gun

might not be enough for this coin crowd.

No. It just feels like one and pays like you never show up.

I am THE moderator for about a dozen differnt metalworking discussion boards and astronomy groups. Most of these boards need moderator action about 1x/month and that generally has to do with booting off a pornspammer. Generally I don't have any problem with controlling language, topic, or content...I guess those guys are just boring compared to (us) coin geeks.

Golly. For me, it was no less than 25 hours a week, every week, for three years. And that was only one sub-forum, and there were two mods for it.
