coin photography:it's all in the slab!..

so once upon a time, I buy a nice 1904 half centavo from Norma Elwell for a pintance of $19. I fall in love with it. A swirling of colors on copper. Eventually this gets sent off to NGC and returns 65BN. Nice grade but something is wrong. The whole coin looks darker and has lost some toning or so I thought. On my nightstand I keep my 4 favorite USPIs: 1905 64rd centavo, 1908 62 peso and 1945d multi-toned 50 centavo, all in PCGS slabs along with the half centavo mentioned above. It's the odd-ball not in a PCGS holder. Jon Rosenthal sends it in to PCGS as a crossover. Naturally it comes back identically graded. It arrives back yesterday. What happened!? The coin has all the original flash! Evidentally, NGC's slab recesses the coin and does not let the light reach the entire coin's surface, either for my eye, or the camera's. This new shot required VERY little effort. Thank you PCGS!
