Does anyone know who struck this medal? HUDSON/SOMMER ISLAND silver restrike-Images

  We used to assume that this muling was done by Bashlow, who did own a number of Thomas Elder dies (which the Hudson die is) and was fond of using them, but I have recently read that the Sommers Island die was created by Paul Franklin, of Western Fantasy infamy, and he might have done the muling.
  
  I spoke with Robert Bashlow at the Coin World offices back about 1976-77, and he told me that years earlier he had left all of his dies with the August Frank Co. of Philadelphia for safekeeping, and that when the senior Frank died his heirs took all of the dies in the shop and sold them, including his. He was going to try to sue to get them back after he got back from a trip to Europe, but he died during the trip in a hotel fire in Spain.
  
  I would still bet that this is a Bashlow strike, but I cannot prove it.

  Thanks a lot for the great info. That's very interesting.
  
  I remember reading that August Frank Co. struck the 2nd restrike Confederate cents too for Bashlow.

  Tom, good information. The August Frank Co. also struck a second restrike of the 1861 Confederate half dollar. I just got one from Coin Rarities Online recently, great coin, thanks to David and John!
