Coin Pricing for Whales

CoinosaurusCoinosaurus Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭✭✭
Suppose you have a coin that a whale really needs, and you know that no one else is willing to step up and pay stupid money.

The whale does not know you have the coin.

What's the best way to extract the most money from said whale? Assume you might do business with the whale again and don't want to be known as someone who is going to unnecessarily waste their time.

This is a theoretical question of course image

What species of whale? Blue, humpback, grey? Or the one that makes every parent cringe when their child asks why it's named that way?

Drop hints. Talk about it on the boards and post pictures of it in picture threads. When the whale contacts you just let them know you want $xxx for it before you sell it.

show me the specific coin in hand sight seen and tell me the persons name and i will tell you exactly what you can get for the coin
  • Easy answer to your question. Have a price in mind and add 20% to that for your first offer to the whale, after he trys to goose you at a lower price, stay real firm at 10% above your asking price. If the whale still doesn't budge, walk away and tell him to call you when he's ready to buy. You will get at least 10% above your asking price if he's interested. Remember the key is pricing in the correct range of value of the coin, if you want to retire on your asking price, forget about it Joey, no one is stupid in coin dealing today when it comes to rare coins.
