I finally found an old U.S. coin this year.
It is a 1907 Indian Head Cent I got in my change at the supermarket.
The date is where the worst "damage" it is very difficult to read and probably why it lasted so long in the wild.

Is that end of roll toning?
I was thinking that too or it may have sat in a PVC album since the back is filled with green-gunk.
Either way the front shows evidence of scraping by a soft object to show the date.
