ebay seller with well over a hundred feedback and 100% positive. Previous sales in the 60-250 range. All positive. A few from a multiple buyer. Member since 2003

NOW.....a couple thousand dollar coin.

Any advice? "When in doubt, don't?"

I dunno.

Nice coin though.

I recently bought a $3000 coin from a seller with 99.9% positive feedback, but most of his other auctions seemed to be in the less than $100 range.

My sale turned out fine, but I was concerned about. It is prudent for you to be as well.

If you get a return priviledge, pay by paypal, etc., I'd say its worth the risk as long as there are no other reasons to doubt the seller.

I haven't heard back yet, but I also asked if he had any .....NON.... ebay refs.

Tuff situation, and eventually if you do it often enough you'll get scammed. But the odds are probably low. I recently had a similar situation with a guy who had sold computer parts and coins under $100. Bam.... then he put up an early NGC holdered 09s VDB in 65RB that looked like a 66 RD. I just didn't have the guts to trust him. I sent some emails to feel him out and he seemed to have the right answers: he was a collector starting to sell some of his early holdered coins. I bid on a nice better date MS65 early holdered silver dollar and won it for $560. The coin was a killer and I turned down offers of 10% higher as soon as I got it. Guess I shouldnt' have passed on the Lincoln.

I'd say feel out the seller and do what you can do to protect yourself. But there is never any shame in passing.

I'ze out. The bids coming in are from zero or low feedback bidders who buy 99 cent gizmos.

    I smell ..... shill.

    No refs outside ebay.

    Just doesn't SMELL right.

    I can wait.

    Ahhhhhhh...... suspicion is so sweet.

I sent an email to the winning bidder (who sells lots of coins on ebay) to tell him I was an interested buyer if he was going to resell the coin but was "chicken" to deal with the seller.

He responded that it was indeed a scam.

    Ahhhhhhhh.......

Just gets better'n better, don't it? Just heard from the successful bidder that he......LUCKILY..... got an angel email from a police department informing him that the coin had been sold BEFORE.

And the buyer never got the coin.

The 1st (as far as I know) seller is NARU now.

I hope those "angel" cops use their wings and fly over to the ...latest.... seller and have a little TALK with him.

Scary stuff. My contemplated bid would have been less than 20 bucks under the winning bid. I would have gone to 4200 or so. Eeeeechhh....and ....I.... might not have got a call from the PD.
