Cracked Proof Set - return?

I received a 2004 proof set from the mint but the plastic holder is cracked for about 1" covering one whole state quarter. The coins are great, I have no problems with them. I don't intend to crack out the set, resell (in the foreseeable future)...just hold it. Would you go to the trouble of returning it?

What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • Another alternative is to pop it out and replace it with a new shell. I have several and can send you one if you wish... Just PM me if you want one.

  • I received my 2004 State Quarter Proof set about a month ago and returned it the same day because it was crushed in shipping. This weekend I received the 2004 11 coin proof set. When I opened the box to look at the coins I noticed several deep scratches on the plastic holders. It's going back tomorrow. I had no problems last year but this year they are Two for Two form the mint. Whats happening here?

Sounds to me like usabear has the answer, just open it up and transfer the coins to another shell.
  • It took me to my third set of 2003 silver proof to get one not cracked. I returned one of the cracked ones and sold the other.

send it back (maybe they'll get the message).
