Looking for info on ANA collection insurance

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
I recently joined the ANA and received a letter from Hugh Wood Inc. about their collection insurance.

I reviewed the archives and from what I can tell, this company is relatively new to the ANA. Two things I notice right off the bat is they don't provide any premium info until you submit an application, and they don't provide a business reply envelope (I know, it's petty, but it seems unusual that they wouldn't supply one when soliciting business).

Can anybody comment on their experiences with Hugh Wood?
What are the premiums?

Should I even bother considering insurance? I've never insured my collection in the past.

    Barry,
I had the same concern about Hugh Woods initially. This is their first year replacing Marsh Seabury & Smith, Their rates are less expensive and the policy is very clear. I have the GOLD coverage of $25,000 for $213 per year. You can call them at 1-888-277-6494 or do what I did. Send them an EMAIL at ANA@hughwood.com. They will respond with all the details you want.

Has anyone out there ever filed a claim while this new company was handling the ANA insurance? What happened?

In all the years I have been collecting I don't personally know of a single person who has ever filed a claim under the ANA insurance with this company or any other.

    All glory is fleeting.

Kinda OT, in a way... (not ANA related)
    But-I have a rider on my Farmer's homeowner's, that's a lot cheaper.
    50K @ $312 a year... No hassle, no inventories req'd..image
  • I have checked around, just last month, and it is cheaper just to do a rider on your homeowner's policy, and it does contain replacement cost insurance coverage. Runs about $20 a month on 25k, I think I was quoted $31 or so for 50k insurance. This was thru Traveler's.
  • was gonna tell you check with your homeowners carrier as well.
    i believe i have 3500 automatic,no questions.
But if i keep going im gonna have to make a phone call !

State Farm offers a Personal Articles policy for stuff over the limits of what Homeowner's covers (jewelry, furs, etc.), plus things that Homeowner's doesn't cover. They will cover coins in this policy.
