Saint Gaudens purchase.

I bought a couple St. Gaudens a couple months ago, not for the collectability factor, but for the gold content. I know there is less than an oz per coin, but I used the bing cb and I think I did ok. First is a 1928 20$ Anacs MS 61, the second is a 1924 20$ PCGS Genuine.

Anyone have a good idea what a fair price, over spot, would be for these coins? Thanks image

Chris, I suspect you're aware of this, but in case someone out there is not, 98 stands for "Damage".

    Link to PCGS Genuine Codes

As for the two coins posted by the OP, I think they will both go for pretty close to spot [edited to add: ...but there are others around here much more in-tune with the generic gold market than I.]

I'd call JJ Teaparty......they have a large slabbed Saint customer base.
They prefer PCGS slabbed and NGC slabbed second.
Not sure about ANACS and PCGS Genuine.
Spots will reduce the price they pay.

Indeed. Was just wondering what and where it was.

Copper spots are NOT A TAKE-AWAY!

Man....that irks me every time I see it. And it ain;t your fault. It's just plain wrong. The finest 1921, three 1927-D MS66's, the finest 1927-S MS67, the finest 1922-S MS66 and all the finest 1908-S' have copper spots! It's a sign of originality and nothing to defend.

This started years ago when a big telemarketer started getting complaints from people who thought it was a stain and they took them back. What they SHOULD have doe was, with every coin that had copper, inserted a small card saying "CONGRATULATIONS! You are one of the lucky recipients of a coin with original copper showing due to the 10% copper in the alloy. This is a sign that the coin is as orihinal as when it was minted." Hypey, a little, but true. All the best gold collectors covet copper spotted coins. If I was offered two 1922-S', one with copper and one without, I'd take the coppery one anyday! The 22-S and 08-S are renowned for copper and without it would be uncharacteristic for the dates.

My two cents and a snap! image

About time someone said this!!! I have a bunch of Slabbed Saints that I bought back when gold was cheap, a lot of them have copper spots, and a dealer that I bought a lot of them from said exactly what you just said. He said that copper spots on gold coins to him were really no different than toning on silver coins, it's a sign of originality.

Post of the week right there IMO

The only detractors for copper spots are telemarketers.
They don't want them because the ignorami will return them.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

My guessestimate for this week would $1300-$1400. About 15% over spot.

Saints are in demand - to state the obvious.
