I haven't heard of them, no. The honesty in the listing is refreshing: Housed in a First Token Grading Service holder with a grade of MS 61, but it looks more like an XF to me.
They are mentioned in this 1996 article, near the bottom.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Thanks for that link Kranky!! That gives me more information about them, a start up date, and a phyisical location.
This was all I had on them.
FTGS (First Token Grading Service) First seen in April 2001 this company seems to specialize in grading just tokens. It probably hasn’t been in operation for long and probably won’t be for much longer if it hasn’t been shut down already. The company has been illegally using an ACG holder without a license. They have since been served with a cease and desist order by ACG, but the lack of interest in having their tokens slabbed also led to the demise of this company. Only one variety
1. Same style slab as the small size ACG slabs. The label is off white with a full identification of the token on the front and the FTGS logo on the back. The faint ACG logo is visible in the lower right corner of the front of the slab. Apparently they only have the dollar size ACG slab as the tokens are held within a foam ring instead of having the proper sized shell for each diameter piece as ACG does.
After I saw my first example of these, I tracked down Alan Hagar to see what if anything he knew about the company since they were obviously using ACG shells. Alan said that he had never heard of the company and requested to see the slab. I showed it to him and he confirmed that it was an ACG shell (Which was obvious.). He said that at that time there was only one person who was licensed to use ACG shells but his license was for a different company not FTGS, and that he had had a problem with him in the past diverting shells to another company.
Now of course this was told to me by AH so we have to consider the validity of the statement.
dont know who it is, but it looks like they picked through PCGS's trash years ago and gathered all their small clacker holders that they threw out and placed their coins in there. I dont like the old clacker holders that the first person used so dount I will like them with someone elses name on them either
Edited to add: I just read the other post's and see it was a ACG holder not a PCGS but still feel the same about the slab, dont like one so probably wouldn't like the other with a new name on it
