Delivery Confirmation shows I received the card, BUT I NEVER GOT IT!!! - UPDATE :-)

Hello all.....I never thought this was possible, but now that I am on the receiving end, I guess it is......I bought a card, that delivery confirmation shows delivered on 2/4/10, but I NEVER GOT THE CARD!!! What happens in this instance?

file a claim with the USPS.
They will look for the item, chat-up the carrier, and if they believe your story they will pay the claim.
If a relief-carrier was on duty the day of delivery, your chances of a successful claim go way up.

In an EBAY/PayPal transaction, a Delivery Confirmation error is the ONLY circumstance under which
"insurance is for the benefit of the buyer."
Is your mailbox secure or is there the possibility that someone took the package? It's also possible that the mail carrier scanned the item and either fogot to put in your box or delievered it to the wrong house...

The guy simply put it in the wrong box.
It might still be in the wrong box.
If the guy has a history of mistakes - and the item was insured - you should have an easy claim.
PayPal will decide for the seller, if the item was less than $250.00.
If the item was not insured, you will lose the money.
"...The item was insured (according to the auction anyway)...and I paid by credit card......it was less than $100......"

Like I noted, the item could still be in the wrong box. Lots of
folks check their boxes infrequently.
As long as the insurance is by USPS, you have a good chance
at a claim if the item is misdelivered and lost.
(The "private insurance" bandits rarely/never pay a claim when
an item shows delivered with DC.)
I also have a PO BOX and my post office had put a package that was a small box and too big to fit in my po box on a shelf somewhere in the post office and claimed it was delivered.
Usually they use a larger lock box general area and stick the key for that box in your po box. They didn't do that this time. So my package was showing 'delivered', even though I didn't receive it.
Ask your post office to check their storage shelves in the back, your item may be sitting right there.
You can check tracking and see what time it was delivered. Lots of offices are borrowing clerks from other offices who aren't as familiar as the regulars. Not as familiar sometimes means more mistakes.
Another option is a hurried overworked clerk (those exist in some offices now) put it on the shelf and scanned it as delivered instead of attempted. On our scanners we hold a button and scan the bar code, then hit a button. The default is "delivered" and we thumb scroll down once for attempted. Our "normal" action is hit that button 3 times and move on to the next one. It's possible that they meant "2 - attempted" and scanned "1-delivered".
Before you call USPS, you might try emailing the seller and asking how they packaged the card. A bubble mailer fits in most po boxes. A priority box fits in almost none. If you get a description of the package that will help USPS when they look for it.
Used to be we required signatures on every insured item. I think we took away a good service when we stopped that.
I was PO'd but did not think I had any options. I did speak with the local post office and the route carrier--all said they did not have any advice or help to offer. So I assumed that was it--I lose.
Out of the blue, the package arrived like 5 WEEKS LATER. No signs of distress or any marking on the package indicating it had been delivered to wrong address--just a regular small padded mailer with a postmark of when the seller originally shipped it.

I'm at 1426 AMHURST AVE. A few times a year, I find ebay deliveries for 1426 WHIPPORWILL (sp?) AVE mixed in with mine. I drop them off the
next day on my way to work. That address is just a few blocks away.

Most post offices are a real mess right now as they are cutting hours and staff. My folks are working twice as hard with 1/3 less staff to help them.
Im probably in the minority but i like my postman and i love my local post office, they keep an eye out for my stuff. I always treat them friendly, i know everyones name
