1952 Mantle PSA 7 Cracked Out? Looks like it to me.

Very poor pictures, but look at the frosting on a few good pics. This looks obviously cracked out to me and the seller "cracked out". Am I wrong?

    I agree, and have just reported it to ebay. Let's see what happens.....

    Steve
  • I think he actually replaced the 7 with a legit '52 Mantle that is trimmed on the top and on the right border.

    I agree! That case was definitely cracked and the card replaced with a f____d one. I am suprised this seller has been selling that long on the bay. Maybe they are making one last sell and splitting town-lol!

    << I think he actually replaced the 7 with a legit '52 Mantle that is trimmed on the top and on the right border. >>

    ///////////////////////////////////////

    When the previously-purchased reprint is blown-up, it is pretty clear that it is not the card in the holder.

    BUT, I am not fully convinced that the card in the holder is genuine. IF it is genuine, it is not the card PSA looked at.

    ...........

    As the economy gets worse - and EBAY angers more sellers - we will see ALOT more good sellers go bad.

    Cranberry township is about 60 miles from me and I'll be bidding. I'll go in person to pick the card up if I happen to win.

    Odd that all his previous card sales have a woodgrain background in the photo.

    ////////////////////////

    I noticed that in looking for signs of a hijack.

    BUT, all of his remaining-previous pics were about as carpy as the subject ones.

    Looks like he may have simply decided to hit a big one on the way out.

    T&S will take a look at it, if they are asked to do so.

    I asked him if I could pick the card up in person if I win and he said positively not!

    the slab looks fake to me. i cant tell if the card is fake. it is definately trimmed though.

  • << <i>I cant tell if the card is fake. it is definately trimmed though. >>

    Yeah, it's definitely trimmed and that's why I thought it was authentic. Who would trim a fake Mantle?

    He popped the real one out and put a trimmed one in.

    looking at it more closely i have to plead the 5th in regards to my comments about the slab having been cracked.

    "Yeah, it's definitely trimmed and that's why I thought it was authentic. Who would trim a fake Mantle?"

    //////////////////////////////////////////////

    IF one were to brush nutmeg-tea stain on the back of a white card, one might
    accidentally soil a front edge/side; the card might then need to be trimmed.

    (The corner that is split looks a little off on the color.)

    ALL speculation, of course.

    But, something is NOT right.

    I keep trying to make it a jacked account, BUT it certainly aint easy.

    However, his old listings had Auctiva pictures - or self-hosted pics. The
    current ones have EBAY pictures.

    Good actor, turned bad. Or, jacked. Not sure.

    Pretty elaborate jack, if it is one.

    ///////////////////////////

    I cannot tell if it was jacked in the past few days, or back in May.

    The current photo style is similar to the May style; using EBAY pics.

    Some prior pics were hosted off-EBAY.

    Vacation time is a common playground for jackers. If a jacker has the numbers
    and knows when the seller is on vacation, the rest is easy.

    the "psa" on the fake slab stuck out the most to me.
  • frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,169 ✭✭✭✭✭
    The back of the fake gives it away. It is definitely a counterfeit. The red box on the back is too large and it doesn't leave the proper sized border around it.

  • My two cents....

    Why would anybody buy a card this expensive on Ebay on the first place, especially considering it is probably one of the five most faked cards in the hobby?

    Anybody can tell from looking at the scan that the card is way too O/C to be a PSA 7 anyway....

    Somebody must have spooked him.

    T&S was working on it.

    It is important NOT to let the crooks simply "end" their listings.
    In order to make a case they can/will take further action on,
    T&S needs to cancel the offending listings.

    T&S, particularly when they have notified law-enforcement, will
    let a listing run to completion. The buyer is then notified and
    receives an email explaining not to pay, etc.

    This does not mean that we should not "bid" on such listings
    to thwart them, but we should not let such sellers know that
    we are onto them.

  • Hi all, I am the owner of the real Mantle. Thanks nightcrawler for bringing this to my attention. Looks like the seller fabricated the flip and 'borrowed' my cert # so that bidders could 'verify' the card. I sent the seller a message asking him to explain what my cert # was doing in his auction; he later replied that he was going to pull the auction and re-submit the card to PSA. Perhaps others contacted him as well and he got cold feet about going through with the scam. Good work guys.
