Homerun Derby

Do you think whoever wins the HR derby, that their cards will spike enough for it to be a good time to sell?
Or what about players that do well in the All Star Game?

not really. it's only one unofficial game and it's just an exhibition. at least that's all it should be. i still can't believe the all-star outcome determines home field advantage for the world series...... and speaking of the homerun derby, its a sham. why are only the selected allstars eligible for the derby? that should be a separate ballot in itself.

I'm not sure anyone even remembers who wins those things. I couldn't even tell you who won it last year.

BTW, is there anyway you can do a home run derby on a baseball video game...using the original 1959 Home Run Derby rules (9 innings a player, three outs an inning; called strikes count as outs)?

that's a classic show i wish they'd bring back! seeing legends like Willie Mays all excited about winning a few thousand bucks! it would be a great charity opportunity these days......say $1000 per HR and $10000 for the winner. i dunno. 2 teams in the same location for a series, pick 2 of the sluggers and go! cheap programming, potentially high ratings, and money to charity. with all the big money thrown around these days, and baseball's declining popularity, this would help.

For the Derby, I think it would take one of them hitting 100 dingers or so, but then, who knows?

Same thing for the All Star Game, someone would have to break a record.

Even then, I doubt if it would be enough for a noticable spike to sell for profit.

If anyone is interested, they put all of the old Home Run Derbys on DVD; I have them and they are awesome. It's neat to see Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays and everyone else chatting with that shmuck who did the announcing. It almost makes me want to collect the Home Run Derby card set... if it wasn't so expensive...

The All Star Game HR Derby has only been going on since 1985, so that set is pretty affordable. I'm doing the rookie set for it.

  • I don't think the home run derby or even the all-star game matters enough to do anything to spike prices, unless they do something completely amazing and it gets everyone talking a lot.

Digi: He's talking about the original 1959 set based on the old tv series - which is both scarce and expensive.

Yea, those modern cards worth 2 cents might spike up to 3 cents. LOL

Speaking of the HR derby - Ruth and Gehrig could be in it but as long as Chris Berman calls it - it is TOTALLY unwatchable.

  • How do you not like Chris Berman. BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK GONE! There is no one better for the homerun derby
  • MorgothMorgoth Posts: 3,950 ✭✭✭
Berman is unwatchable right now, same stuff for 20 years.

I agree that the fans should vote for the Homerun Derby hitters.

The home team should have at least one player in it and if they decline they should be ridiculed in their own media and forced to wear a dress during the game.

All of the BP pitchers should be hot softball chicks with really short shorts and tight shirts and a minimum of 38 DD.

As much as I love adding new cards to my collection, it's nice when I don't have to...

From my MVP winner set... and now also from my Home Run Derby Winner set...
