"Collectors, dealers await word on Global Authentication

Customers of grading and authentication provider Global Authentication have been left to wonder about the companys status the past few days. Customers who called the California-based company to check on the status of their merchandise have received messages stating that the number has been disconnected. Globals website has also been down.

Adding to the anxiety is the fact that at least one customer who stopped by the companys headquarters this week found an eviction notice posted on the front door. Bob Rund said he dropped off an estimated $8,000 worth of packs last week for grading. When I called on Monday to check on the status, the phones were disconnected. I went to check the website and that didnt work either, Rund said. When I drove to the office the next day, the doors were locked, the office was empty and the eviction notice was posted. There was no note about a new location or anything.

In a story posted on Beckett.com Tuesday, Steve Sipe, Global VP of business development, was quoted as saying the company was still in business, but had closed temporarily due to relocation and was moving to another office area in the same business complex.

However, Global had not contacted its customers to inform them that it would be moving or provide a new address. It has not issued any other public statements explaining their situation or provided contact information for their new location. Global president Steve Rocchi did not return a call to Trade Fax.

Debbie Ochoa, manager of the office that oversees business licensing for the city of San Clemente, said she went to the Global offices Tuesday because she had received two complaints from customers worried about the status of their submissions. Ochoa said she saw no evidence that Global was occupying another office in the complex.

Steve Coontz, an attorney representing the owner of the building where Global was leasing space, confirmed an eviction notice was served but would not comment on any other aspect of the case."

Whether GAI is going out of business or not, what a bunch of stooges.

The global crew have done nothing to quell any rumors or ease any customer angst.

As i have dealt with evictions--It takes (unless it moves through court very quickly) about 4 to 6 weeks from the time you file your paperwork to getting the eviction posted at the home or business. That means that no rent was paid for at least 3 months by GAI.

    Interesting.

What a scammer! He's even using the former backdrop on the GAI web site for his auction. Someone's basement pack factory must be working overtime these days--I've seen more of these bogus racks, fron all different years, than ever before.

I'm sure business will pick up when their set registry goes live on Monday.
No such details will spoil my plans...

It will be interesting to see if the Steves, Mike and Danny and Co prove to be more than unsuccessfull businessmen and cross over to criminal activity if they don't return potentially tens of thousands of dollars of submission materials that don't belong to them.
  • I wonder what Wayne Varner and Rick Changie think as they invested heavily into GAI.

Crazy as it seems today, there were many people who post on these forums who sang the praises of GAI a few years ago. Why anyone would submit cards to anyone besides PSA is beyond me.

i never submitted anything to gai, dont even know where they are ,just seems mighty strange that if u are still in biz that you leave all your customers hanging with no internet,no phone service, nothing,if u are moving or something thats the 1st priority i would think, communication with your customers,im sure gai submitters with cards/rack packs,ect...stuff worth big bucks are pretty ticked off right about now

Geez Chaz that is a change from when you first came here and touted GAI as the second coming. What changed your opinion of them?

    Steve
    Good for you.

There are a couple of reasons WinPitcher:

1). Danny F. is an abrasive guy and very impatient when asking questions about certain grades I received when speaking to him over the phone.

2). No population report and when I asked them about it, they said forget about it in a nice way (Steve Rocci).

3). Mike Baker is still great and not part of this biching.

    4). Inconsistent grading.

5). No message boards and they said forget about it in a nice way when I asked them (Steve Rocci).

6). I will not give them any more business because of Danny F (Or until he leaves).
