What card have you had the most duplicates of? (ie. Had 1,000 Griffey 89 UD RCs)

So what card have you owned the most copies of? How many did you have? What is the most you have ever seen?
Also lets see pics if you still have them.

I think the Sabo guy has a ton of the 89 Topps Sabo, but I guess he is kinda busy right now haha.

Yep... I have my hands full right now, but there isn't much to do in the hospital when the wife and child are sleeping... except find the end of the internet.

I believe I might have just about everyone covered... I haven't counted these, nor really want to. I'd estimate 6000+ of the '89 Topps Chris Sabo's.
It's not just this one card for me though...

Maybe one day I'll do something with these cards.... something 'youtube' worthy.

Shameless Link to my Sabo collection thread.

Not sure if you are serious but I thought he would be a great pro. I went to a UCLA v. UGA game back in the 80's I guess it was. Litterial Green looked like the greatest basketball player of all time. Dude had about 40 points in the second half. Hitting shots from all over the court. Single handidly beat UCLA in LA. I thought he would be awesome in the pros but....

I have about 400 1987 Topps Kevin Mitchell cards.

Why? This was one of my favorite cards when I was a kid, and in adult life, picking up cards I liked when I was a kid is fun and brings a plesant little feeling of excitement, so I figured I'd see how good I fealt with a batch of 400. Diminishing returns. image

Growing up in Cincinnati I think you received a Chris Sabo card with every pair or socks with the stirrups sewn into them that you purchased. Two with every pair of sports goggles bought. That would get you started.

I actually loved Chris Sabo growing up. I traded a stack of football hall of fame cards from the 60's for a Chris Sabo autographed card and his topps traded back in the day. Boy did I take that guy. What has that Johnny Unitas done lately?

In the 1980s-90s it was common practice for dealers advertising in SCD to sell lots of 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000+ of the same exact card. Commons sold for a few pennies ea. on up to a couple dollars for a current Ryan, Rose, Brett, etc.

I never bought these, but I know of many a dreamer who bought all the Cory Snyder, Steve Sax, Chili Davis, Joe Charboneau rookies they could find. Nothing like investing in modern cards image Im sure these savvy investors then sold there hoards and invested in Pogs, Beanie Babies, Starting Lineups, eTopps, etc.

In the early 90s people were selling boatloads of stars cheap and some "momentary" stars - and I have to confess - I couldn't resist a bargain - now? I wish I had resisted! image

Besides 100F and 100T Glavine RC's, I've got an 800 ct. box of his 2nd yr Topps cards.

    I've got an 800ct box of Bonds 87T RC's.

    A 250ct box of Thomas 90B RC's.

And more stacks of "never gonna get it" momentary stars - too numerous to mention like Pete Incaviglia, Cal Eldred and Got knows who else!

Now that I think of it? I wish you hadn't brought it up! image

  • i have between 100 and 400 each of about 10 different Kirby Puckett cards. 1986 Topps, 1987 Topps, 1988 Donruss, 1989 Donruss, 1990 Donruss, 1990 Donruss MVP, 1990 Fleer All-Star insert, etc. I bought a couple really big lots of Pucketts a couple years ago and was going to start a registry set but haven't gotten around to it yet. I know i have something like 600 different and a monster box full of doubles.
    Slowly but surely working on:
    • Kirby Puckett
    • Al Newman
    • Al Toon
    • Troy Bell
    • Trish Stratus
    • 1965 Topps BB

I have over 100 1987 Topps Roger Clemens. I don't even collect him. When I get cards, I do sort out the stars by name and put them in 5 row boxes. Somehow, I have ended up with that many 87 Topps Clemens'.

(I'll insert here what people that don't know anything about cards say). I'm going to hang on to them for a few years, and then they'll be worth a lot of money some day! image

back in the early 50s, my grandfather lived in a lighthouse on the shore. one day he saw about 4-5 suspicious guys in the middle of the night loading hundreds of boxes onto a small ship. just as they were about to set sail, he approached them and asked them what they had and what they intended on doing with them. they said they were each paid $50 from an undisclosed company to 'do away' with their unsold backstock. my grandfather, being the obnoxious pack rat that he is, offered to take the load off their hands. Well, unfortunately, my grandfather had passed away not long after leaving us with the mess to clean. as we were rummaging thru his life, we found 238 sealed cases of bubblegum cards. we opened them all and sorted them out. i'd say we have roughly 1200 of each card in the set. guess we'll save money on Halloween candy now...

I had 100 Sosa Leaf rookies that I found in common boxes in 1990 for $.50-$1.00 ea.
I had a feeling he was going to be great. In 98 I sold about 80 of them for between
$50- $75 to my local card shop 2 or 3 at a time. He was flipping them for $80-100.
We had an assemble line going for awhile. The last 19 I sold in the $20 ea range after his star
started to fall. I still have 1 left though. image

Now for the other side of the coin.
    100 Hemsley Mullens RC
    100 Steve Decker RC
    100 Kevin Moss RC
    100 Carlos Baerga RC
    100 Chuck Knoblouch RC
    100 Dave Justice RC
    100 Ben McDonald RC

I just can't bring myself to throw them away. Maybe they will all unretire and make a great comeback
and have HOF stats? Hey, It could happen!
