Something I've wondered

Recently I started a thread about a card that I own (from another grading company) that I wanted to crack out and submit to PSA. Do any of you feel that those from CU monitoring the threads (they obviously do because things go poof sometimes) relay that info to PSA? What I mean is, if I had an SGC 92, and I was hoping for a PSA 9 by cracking and submitting (so PSA didnt know it came from SGC), do any of you think that since they have advanced knowledge of my card being on its way, have I alerted them and thus put them on their guard for that card? Had I not started the thread on THEIR board they would have never known it was an SGC 92, and could have been objective about it.

Just something I've often wondered.

I don't think PSA monitors the boards to that degree.

Though I think Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzalez might.
  • I think they do and this is why. My PSA membership expired in late July or early August and I was lucky enough to get my June special in right before my subscription expired. Upon receiving my submission, PSA emailed me at my email address that they had on file. It is a Hotmail email address - the same email address that I used when I became a member.

I joined the PSA boards in July, but registered with a different email address. It was a Yahoo email address. When my grades popped the other day, they sent the notification to my Yahoo address. How did they get that email address??? I never gave it to them. Sure, it was the email address that I used when I registered for the boards, but how did the grading department get that email address??? How did they associate the two email addresses? I still havent figured that out!
  • Did you change your name? lol. Im just kidding. Probally typed in your last name into the database and that email is on file and they didnt update it.

Nah. That would require a fair amount of manpower & organization to keep it all straight from board monitors to receiving dep't to graders, and in the end would only cost them money. They get the fees regardless of whether you expect a 9 or not, so not sure what they would be "on guard" about? JMO.

About keeping their reputation of being more strict than SGC. If they give urt a 9 then SGC is a more strict grader in their eyes, and I dont think they want that known.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Still, that would be an AWFUL lot of work (not to mention the legal issues involved). I really don't think so. But what do I know.
  • No, too much work to cross reference.

if they monitor things that closely... then why would some people say they get a card returned for being trimmed and then say how on the resub it was graded...

  • You hit it on the head! It would take way to much manpower to monitor all 100,000 or so members. They would be better off hiring more graders and making turnaround times faster.. I see one guy is at day 97 for a June special.. That is LUDICROUS!

Is PSA's goal to be more STRICT or to be more ACCURATE? I would think accuracy is the the goal.

You can be sure they dont. Heck, they cant even keep the banned members from rejoining the message boards. And not only that, questions that are posed directly to the CEO and mods OFTEN go UNANSWERED. If they cant handle those two simple tasks then I doubt they could handle anything more difficult.

: insert tin foil hat here :

Seriously guys, do you really think PSA has the man power to do that?

If that were the case, anyone who complains would get the worst grades and slowest service possible.

Think about it and watch out for those black helicopters.

Way too difficult and the gains would be minimal.
