A Find From The Past

My sister recently returned these to me. She found them in some of my father's stuff. It used to be if you ran into a NASCAR driver at a open house or after a race he would give you one of these souvenir post cards. All are from 1968, 69, and 70.

Ron

Edited to add: From top to bottom:

Cale Yarborouch
Donnie Allison
A.J. Foyt
David Pearson
Mario Andretti
Leroy Yarbrough
Benny Parsons
Richard (Dick) Brooks
Bud Moore
James Hylton

Awesome find! I've often wondered whatever happened to the 8x10 black & white pictures my Dad used to have of the Indy 500 winners and their cars when they drove on Firestone tires. My Dad used to get them in the '60s while selling Firestones. None of them were auto'ed like yours, though!
  • I got these myself and luckily my dad put them up. As you can see they were a little mistreated at the races. We used to have a beer or two while attending. The Cale Yarborough autograph is printed on the card, the Dick Brooks and James Hylton autographs are real. Notice the metal guard rails around the tracks. No soft walls back then and they actually looked like the cars they were supposed to be.

i agree, they've made every thing safer i suppose with the new cars and soft wialls and all that,,but they have ruined it as far as rules go, race all season till the last 10 races, then start all over for "the race to the chase" after you might be #1 all year, that just aint right, the've ruined a perfectly good redneck sport that i still love with all their stupid new rules, allstated to go dwonhill when they had to take winston cup off and replace it with nextell cup-that just sounds stupid, it will always be the winston cup to me,and alot of other old time fans!

  • There was a story that went around before Leroy died that he used to fly with Cale's in his plane to races. It seems Leroy called Cale one Monday and wanted to know when Cale was going to pick him up to go to the race. Cale told him the race had been the day before and that he had raced in it. Leroy had been in several wrecks previous to this and apparently had brain damage. I believe that is what he died from.

    SLAMMIN PICS !
Love the 427 motors too, there is no substitution for Cubic inches !

Right now I am currently restoring a 74 Lemanns , it has a 350 in it , but I have a 427 L88 motor in the garagethat I pulled out of a 69 Camaro I would just love to get in there , only thing is ,I would have to change everything else too and right now that is just a little out of reach.

If you have a 69 427 L88 you should sell it and buy a 455 that will bolt to the tranny in your LeMans, but you'll need to go to a T400 tranny. You can build a real nice Lemans with the $$ a L88 will bring.

If you PM me the casting #s off the block and heads, and the code off the front stamp pad I can tell you a lot about that motor. I've been playing with camaros and big blocks since the early 70s image
