Bid with confidence, right.

Edited to add: The poor boy says he didn't have a scan of his own 1952 Mantle, so he "borrowed" this one. He will be listing his own '52 Mantle PSA 9 soon. I can hardly wait.
Not often the subject of one of these threads comes here to tell us off. Welcome, asapman.

Auction asapman is bidding on
Looks kind of like when you sell a stock short and have to go buy some shares to cover - I guess the winner of the "PSA 9" auction gets whichever one of these cards asapman/asap342 can win the cheapest - the real PSA 1, or the fake ex-mt one.
Seriously, trying to take someone for $22,000 on eBay is not a "white lie," it's a rather serious federal interstate crime, as you would have discovered if anyone was dumb enough to bid and then send you the money on trust.
I sold a PSA Mantle rookie some months ago (51 Bowman), and the high bidder was understandably nervous. Even with references and a connection with the person who sold the card to me weren't enough. Nor should it be when that kind of money is at stake. I could have set it all up, if I were a really determined and clever con man. In the end he very astutely took my suggestion that he use escrow.com, where I would not get the dough until he had the card in his hands and signed off on the payment. It cost him a bit more, but his mind was at ease that he was not being taken for the ride of a lifetime.
That's what it takes at this level -- escrow, consigning to a respected dealer, or even meeting in person. Nobody is going to just send you $22K and wait patiently and hopefully for their Mantle to arrive. Not to someone who just arrived on the scene with no history of buying or selling high-end cards. Not even in the wild hope that they're getting a $80K card at a steal.
I don't know what you were expecting to happen next in this little adventure, but frankly you're pretty fortunate it was aborted. As you now know, there are some vigilant eyes in this neighborhood!
so what yor thoughts on this sad but true reality?
The only way someone that dumb would get a '52 Mantle PSA 9 would be to steal it.
Even if his father owned it, he'd put it in a trust rather than let the "special" kid control it after his death.

It's a sweet card, but it appears as a weak 9 IMO.
