Zero feedback high bidder (youarefoolishtobidagainstme) as well. Isn't this a pattern on fake cards?

The last thing he sold was an electric shaver. The last thing he bought was "1 Pound of Trading Cards" for $1.75. Quite a leap from that to selling a 1952 Mantle PSA 9.

The high bidder with zero feedback, one of his previous ID's is "thisruthballisfakeandcardstoo" ...

    Bid with confidence, right.
  • During my searches a few days ago, there was an auction for this same card by a LEGIT dealer. It looked like a test or something because the seller canceled it almost immediately - price was fixed at 135K or 140K I believe. I wondered how many days would it take before the scan would be stolen? Two days is the answer!

Aww, he canceled the auction. That's a shame. I guess he smartened up before he committed a felony fraud. Not than anyone (other than himself) was going to bid on this obvious scam.

Edited to add: The poor boy says he didn't have a scan of his own 1952 Mantle, so he "borrowed" this one. He will be listing his own '52 Mantle PSA 9 soon. I can hardly wait.
  • well here we go with the bull yapping when you dont know what your talking about

Well, since he decided to emerge from lurking... The above poster (and new member) asapman is the "seller" of the 1952 Mantle PSA 9 in this auction. He insists he was not scamming anyone, that he only "borrowed" this scan because he doesn't have a good picture of his own Mint 1952 Mantle. Still, he did the right thing and canceled his auction when confronted, albeit not with good grace.

Not often the subject of one of these threads comes here to tell us off. Welcome, asapman.

Puh-leaze! A 1952 Topps Mantle in PSA 9 with a BIN of $22,000... a top 7 could get that price... strangely, this reminds me of an old Hammer tune... "2 legit, 2 legit to quit!"... I'm waiting to see what happens first, this card being re-listed, or pigs flying... whaddya think?

Scammers always think they are so clever until they get caught, then they always turn apologetic. Trying to eliminate all the baseball card scammers on ebay is like going out in your backyard and stepping on all the red ants you see, trying to get rid of them. The scammers will always be here but at least we can work to eliminate the real bad ones.
  • well your wrong first i am not a scammer and have no apologies for nothing ,no need when your legite but scammers are everywhere and most of you here have scammed or little white lie sometime in your lives so no one here is any better then even the worst scammers so cant talk to much can ya,

so what yor thoughts on this sad but true reality?
  • if you actually have the Mantle, what is the serial number? answering this question will be a lot more difficult than answering the scanner question, so please think it through before answering.
  • tell you what...you get a camera with a pic of you holding the mantle psa 9, with the newspaper with todays date behind the mantle
but visable..and ill get on a plane a meet you with my cashiers check for 22K

let me know..and we can put an end to this

If, and I mean IF, you really do own a PSA 9 1952 Mantle, and you are willing to part with it for just $22K, then you are truly living up to your forum ID... because to sell at that price you'd have to be A SAP MAN !!!!!!!

I like that photo idea... kinda like one of those kidnap shots... let's see it!

    Auction asap342 is bidding on

    Auction asapman is bidding on

Looks kind of like when you sell a stock short and have to go buy some shares to cover - I guess the winner of the "PSA 9" auction gets whichever one of these cards asapman/asap342 can win the cheapest - the real PSA 1, or the fake ex-mt one.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Forget Bearsnum34's lowball offer, I'll give you $30K AND buy you lunch. Didn't you even look up the 52T Mantle PSA 9? That's at least a $80K card!

Seriously, trying to take someone for $22,000 on eBay is not a "white lie," it's a rather serious federal interstate crime, as you would have discovered if anyone was dumb enough to bid and then send you the money on trust.

I sold a PSA Mantle rookie some months ago (51 Bowman), and the high bidder was understandably nervous. Even with references and a connection with the person who sold the card to me weren't enough. Nor should it be when that kind of money is at stake. I could have set it all up, if I were a really determined and clever con man. In the end he very astutely took my suggestion that he use escrow.com, where I would not get the dough until he had the card in his hands and signed off on the payment. It cost him a bit more, but his mind was at ease that he was not being taken for the ride of a lifetime.

That's what it takes at this level -- escrow, consigning to a respected dealer, or even meeting in person. Nobody is going to just send you $22K and wait patiently and hopefully for their Mantle to arrive. Not to someone who just arrived on the scene with no history of buying or selling high-end cards. Not even in the wild hope that they're getting a $80K card at a steal.

I don't know what you were expecting to happen next in this little adventure, but frankly you're pretty fortunate it was aborted. As you now know, there are some vigilant eyes in this neighborhood!

Does PSA log IP addresses from the posters on the forum? If so, I wouldn't be too worried about anyone getting away with a felony, er, white lie!

The only way someone that dumb would get a '52 Mantle PSA 9 would be to steal it.

Even if his father owned it, he'd put it in a trust rather than let the "special" kid control it after his death.

    Now I'm thoroughly disgusted.

He's a square trade verified seller.

    They'll take anyone.

ASApman must be done conversing about this topic. I hope this guy is under fifteen years old. If he is trying to pull this stunt over this age he is destined to be in jail in the next ten years. Asapman, you might want to get some help before you are someones' prisionb*tch.

  • Here's the legit PSA 9

It's a sweet card, but it appears as a weak 9 IMO.
