(ON HOLD)

Yeah, OK, so the coin ain't slabbed.

And it's a little bit, *ahem* ventilated at the top, you might say. But if it weren't, it wouldn't have qualified for inclusion on the world famous "Holey Gold Hat" seen in my avatar picture. And I probably wouldn't be offering it for spot price.

(Edit- OK, I'll take LESS than spot price).

Its prior provenance is the other famous holey coin guy, Douglas Thigpen (aka "dthigpen" or "Thiggy" to some of us here). I bought it from Thiggy last year when I had a tiny bit more dough but now times are tighter here and bullion prices have soared, so it's time to part with it (and, if you're interested, perhaps one or two others from the HGH as well).

Per Kitco at the time of this posting, gold closed in NY at $1,092.40/oz. Multiplying this by the coin's bullion weight of .24187 oz and rounding up the penny, I come up with $264.22 as the melt price on this beauty. (And kidding aside, she still IS a beauty, holey or not).

(Edit- Monday NY Spot has moved up to $1114.60/oz, making the melt value on this piece $269.59 as of this Tuesday morning.)

Yes, for simplicity's sake, I am calculating the bullion weight of a whole coin, though some of you purists will grumble that there's some gold missing as a result of the old contemporary hole in it. Phooey to that, I say. I am justified in asking full-coin melt price for it, since a nice historical holey often trades at a pretty decent premium over melt.

(Edit- or maybe I wasn't justified, since nobody pounced. So fine... MAKE ME AN OFFER.)

With packaging, postage, and insurance, what say I ask... uhmmm... $268.00 delivered?

(Edit- as mentioned, YOU tell me what you wanna pay for this, within reason. I WAS asking $268.00, but there is a bit of wiggle room since I bought it when bullion was cheaper- and it's gone UP a few dollars since I originally posted this.)

Melt price aside, the 2009 Redbook lists this coin (without a hole, of course) at $650.00 in XF.

Edit- Whoops- it was a little after midnight Eastern when I posted the original message, meaning it had just become the 14th, and my Sunday bump is also on the 14th. I was thinking I had posted this on Saturday night (which I had, though it was eight minutes after midnight). I've just barely run afoul of the "one bump per day" rule, by a technicality. Sorry 'bout that.
