My second purchase for my new 19th century VF-XF circ set. (A theme I keep coming back around to.)

For the record, I voted VF30 in the poll. It was that or VF25 for me, and you know what they say about ownership adding a few points to the grade. image

By Numismedia retail trends, I paid only a few bucks over VF20 money for this - roughly half of the XF price. So it might not have been a screaming bargain if the consensus here is a low VF grade, but I liked it OK for a type coin. There are some tiny flecks of greenish scuz on the reverse but I do not think they'll bother me. Do you think they might be PVC? I'll hit 'em with a toothpick and some acetone after I get the coin.

Oh, my. Now that would be interesting, now, wouldn't it? Looking at the bigger obverse picture, I sorta see what you you're talkin' about.

Cool. I'll take a 7x loupe to it once it gets here. Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't even thinking about the overdate possibilities.

@Broadstruck- thanks. I have fun with 'em. image

    I sure don't see a 7. Voted VF30. image

I voted VF 35, but I think I was giving too much weight to the nice strong tail feathers. May have been too quick to judge, but I like to grade fast. Still see it as VF-30.

The 3 who voted the coin Genuine didn't explain why they thought that. I'd like to know their rational for that opinion. Not being a wise guy, I just wonder what they saw that I didn't.
    Best wishes,

That happens fairly often on these polls. People will vote "problem coin" or "counterfeit" but then never explain their rationale. I for one would like to hear it, of course.

Since it is a Small Letters, it can not be the 1858/7 variety.

Pretty solid VF-30 to me, with a nice look.
